1st dance song

I recently asked my FMIL what her first dance song was, and she said Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are."  I like Billy Joel, and I looked up the lyrics to this song and it's perfect.  I played in on YouTube and it made me cry...I love it!!

I want it to be my and my fiance's 1st dance song.  Would this be rude to my future in-laws?  If it's not my 1st dance song it will definitely be one of my requests.  I really want it to be my first dance, but I also feel like my FMIL will be disappointed that she isn't going to get the chance to dance to her song again.

What's a girl to do??

Re: 1st dance song

  • I think it is fine to use their song. For all you know, they might be honored that you are using their song. I would talk to them about it and see what they say.

  • Maybe invite them in to dance with you all halfway through the song so they still get to dance to it.

  • I agree that they might be honored....that or they won't care. I can't imagine them saying No and actually being upset if you use it.

  • Call me crazy -- but why would you WANT to dance to the song your FMIL danced to at her wedding, if I understand your post? I mean, they're are many other very, very beautiful songs out there that you'll fall in love with just as much, maybe more.  I think wedding wire has amazing lists by category.  Why complicate this first dance.  Make it your own.  Make your marriage, your lives, your own... don't start, I say.
