Something "different" for vases (PIP)

I'm thinking I'd like something different for our centerpiece vases, but I can't decide how this will look.  Our reception hall is a very traditional-looking ballroom, and I'm planning to incorporate some Victorian-era style vintage flare, but I don't want to go over the top with the Victorian theme.  So...I was thinking of trying to collect some vintage-looking pitchers to use as vases, like these.  What do you think?  Please be honest, you won't hurt my feelings.  Better to know now before I get started...

  • hard to say without knowing the decor of the ballroom. had a friend get married in the garden terrace room of the NY Botanical Gardens and she used an idea similiar to the top line, 2nd picture. It looked great but because it matched the decor of the room (painted murals of gardens on the walls). If your ballroom is very modern looking, with clean lines and white walls, it might not work as well. i do think it is a unique idea and if it matches the tone of your wedding and other decor it may work quite nicely.

  • I think those are beautiful and classy.  I could see them at an afternoon/garden type reception though more than an evening ballroom reception.

  • I think it is a great idea. I am also looking to do something simmilar for my outdoor VT wedding. I am looking to get more of the antique metal looking ptchers for the country feel. But same overall idea.
  • I wouldn't say our ballroom is very modern - it has kind of an old fashioned feel to it, which is why I think these would work well in there.  And we're not having an evening reception - it will be late afternoon in the summer time, and with the huge floor to ceiling windows in there, we should get lots of natural light.  That together with the gorgeous view of the golf course gives it almost a gardeny feeling, in my opinion.  I guess my main concern is that there's no way I'm going to find 15 pitchers that match.  So will it look too strange having different looking centerpieces on each table?
  • I think it's fine for everything not to match perfectly.... I don't know what kind of vases I'll be using- I'm thinking some round some square- but I love the idea of different centerpieces.
  • So cute!  I like those so much more than all the other centerpieces I've looked at.  Saving picture...
  • I think it would be great for an afternoon wedding.

You could also use teapots or even tea cups, depending on the size of the tables.  For small bistro size tables, the teacups would be perfect, for 48" round tables, I think a teapot would be about the right size.  For larger 60+ inch tables, then the pitcher would be a better size.

My mom has a lot of old silver plated serving dishes, like chafing dishes, pitchers, bowls, trays, candelabra, etc...  I considered digging them out of the attic and polishing them up to use for centerpiece flowers for my daughter's wedding.  I think it would have looked kind of neat to use mismatched pieces.  But it was just too much work, and no guarantee they would clean up good.
