Ceremony/Reception Set Up

I also posted this on Ceremony Ideas Board because I wasn't sure of the right place but more advice is always appreciated!
My issues is I have the perfect place to have my event.  I found a nice B&B for an October outdoor wedding!  My issue is the set up.  I have to rent my own tables and chairs.  The chairs are the concern.  The reception area will clearly be seen from the cermony area; they will be no more than 10 to 15 feet apart if that far.  Mind you this is a backyard of a B&B.  I either rent 2 sets of chairs for both set ups or I set up the ceremony area with the chairs and tell guests to take their chairs with them once the ceremony is over to the reception area to a table they will like to sit.  I will not have assigned tables so it's sit where you want.
Outside from the chair issue, since it's nothing but grass do I have to rent a dance floor?  I don't want to because grass can be danced on as well and guests already know the wedding is outside in a backyard!
Also note that should it rain, our Plan B is to have a tent set up probably with a floor!  The weather in NC for October 1st is still warm with no rain.
NEED LOTS OF ADVICE FOR SETUP AND DECORATIONS!!!!

Re: Ceremony/Reception Set Up

  • I had to carry my chair once from ceremony to reception, it worked just fine.

I would rent a dance floor though.

  • I would not ask your guests to carry chairs.  You can hire a couple of HS/college kids to move them so that you don't have to rent a 2nd set.

You need a dance floor; it's very difficult to dance in grass.

  • I agree with Mrs.B on both issues.

Don't have your guests, in their fancy clothes celebrating your event, move their own chairs.  You can easily find some paid assistance so you don't have to rent two sets of chairs.  See if your local HS has a sports team that does odd jobs to raise money for their team.

If you expect people to dance, have a dance floor.  It's hard to dance on grass, especially in fancy shoes, and it can be dangerous if there are random holes and rocks to trip over.
  • I usually wear heels to a wedding.  Heels+dancing on grass?  Just doesn't really work.  You do need a dance floor if you're going to have dancing.

Can the B&B staff recommend someone who will move the chairs for you?  It's a little more tasteful than asking people to move their own chairs.

    Good luck to you.
