tent reception--heat/rain

Is anyone having or did you have an outdoor tented reception. I am planning August in NJ starting at 5:00ish and am concerned about heat/humidity and rain. Has anyone had a horrible experience with a hot wedding? or rainy one? or have any suggestions?
Thanks!

  • If it is really to hot you could rent fans I am sure. As for rain, does the tent have a floor?

are there side drapes on the tent?  When my cousin got married it rained and they had to pull those out, but it was fine.  Can the rental company guarantee the tent won't leak if it does rain? We also had to wipe down some of the chairs/tables with towels at said cousins wedding...not super annoying but it caused a slight delay in getting everyone into the tent.
  • I had a tented wedding in Cape May.   A Tropical Storm hit, so yeah I had to deal with 60mph wind driven rain.  We had side curtains that kept the rain out, unfortunately it made it a little warm also (made the cake melt a little,NBD).  We had fans, which helped, but I wish we had more.

The tent did collapse the morning of the wedding, but it was fixed before the wedding and we didn't have any problems.  Guys from the tent company stayed the entire time to make sure it was going to be okay (this was the first time they had to deal with such weather).   It held up great and they guys did a great time raising and lowering the curtains to make sure it was not to hot.

  • Thank you for the thoughts about the tent having a floor (it would not), and having the rental company guarantee no leaking. The Tropical Storm story tops it all! My friend suggested, "think of your worst weather scenario and if you can live with that then you can do the tent."  Thanks! I will have to decide soon!
  • My niece had her wedding reception at the Ryland Inn in NJ in early September.  It was HOT and the tent was stiflingly

I went to a tented reception in July in FL at it was miserable, even with the fans.  I was gross and sticky the whole time.

<div>I live in the islands and decided to have our wedding in Cape May to avoid Tropical Storms and it was closer to our family/friends). Joke was on us I guess.</div><div>
</div><div>Even after that, it was great wedding and all but 4 people came.. It was an amazing time and our guests and vendors said it was one of the best weddings they had attended.. Rain or not... we had good food, open bar and a great DJ.. What more did the guests need??</div>

  • To Lyndausvi--
I can't believe you were trying to avoid a tropical storm and got one anway! I am so glad that you had a good time and your guests did too. I am all about making the best of bad situations. I think I would be more comfortable with rain (maybe not a trop storm) than hot sticky heat as the other cited. That's what scares me...and even the fans didn't help.

ootmother2, were there sides on the tent? or no fans? What time of day was the reception? That's too bad that it was still so hot in Sept.
