DIY Photo Booth... also in DIY Board

There's an area on the patio of our reception venue that I could set up a DIY photobooth... hang a really cool fabric backdrop that goes with our colors, (mango and lime,) and then have a table of fun props.. old photo frame, chalk board for messages, boas, hats, glasses.. all that fun stuff.
I pitched the idea to my mom and she thought it was kind of tacky, but I told my MOH about it and she loved it.

  • We're doing it, but having a friend-- who is a photographer-- take the photos. I've only gotten positive feedback...

  • I love the idea as long as you hire someone to take the photos.  None of your friends want to work during your party and be the designated photographer all night... even if they offer.

  • Ditto PP. We're paying her. I've also heard of using a remote trigger so guests can take the photos themselves.

  • I was thinking about doing this too but I was thinking about just having a table with the props and some disposible cameras. I figured people would go over in groups and take pictures of eachother as they please. Very casual and if someone doesnt want to participate they wont feel like they have to. The idea is kind of like combining the photo booth with disposible cameras on the tables

  • I can't remember if I shared this with you on the DIY board, so here it is again:

And to PP re: disposable cameras.... I urge you to rethink this.  Or at least have realistic expectations.  Disposable cameras are notoriously low quality, giving dark grainy pictures (even those with a built in flash).  It's also going to cost a fortune to get all those rolls developed, not knowing if you'll even get anything usable from them.  You're likely to get pictures of the tables, blurry pictures, and possibly... ahem... things you don't want to see (no one wants to think they're invited "those" people, but we all have them lurking in our family tree and/or social circle).

  • I agree with the disposable photo comment above and have 1 more thing to add to it: guests take them with and you never see the pictures.  My aunt had these and she still gets comments about how much fun the pictures were that came from the cameras on the table: she has never seen them lol.

We're doing a photography themed wedding (and on a budget) so my ears totally pricked up at this post!  Good luck!
