Reception - Alternative to DJ/Dance

Neither my significant other or I are into dancing and the DJ part of weddings.  We find them boring, too loud, and not enough about interacting with guests.

We are planning a winter wedding (February) in Wisconsin, so outdoor ideas are out.  We both have extremely busy summers (farmers) so we would like to have our anniversary a time of year when we can actually take time to spend together.

Are there any ideas to do after the dinner indoors?  I was thinking about having a photobooth, perhaps a Wii set up for some people to play that, some tables with cards for games, and perhaps a "kids corner" with some kiddy games for the younger kids that will be there.  Does this sound too dumb?  Are there other ideas?  We will have 300-350 people there, and it will have a large bar for people to gather around as well.  We will still have music playing with an Ipod playlist my bridesmaids and I make up, but it won't be so loud that we can't talk to our guests and actually spend some time with them.

Thanks in advanced!

  • This sounds like a great idea!  Did it work (I see the post is from a couple of years ago).  I'm not a DJ person either and trying to figure out what to do.
  • The OP is no longer active on the boards. Games, etc are not for weddings. You should at least have SOME kind of music for atmosphere. You don't have to have dancing at your wedding, but if you do an evening event, be prepared for the party to end earlier. Not wanting dancing was the main reason we opted for a daytime event.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
