Rectangle tables- HELP?

My reception facility only offers rectangle tables for our use. As our real wedding is taking place in St. Lucia and this is our AHR, I am not worried enough about it to spend the $$$$ to rent round tables. The tables they offer are 8' long. I am needed some helpful advice about table setup. I have seen on these boards that most brides with this problem either set the tables up in long rows or push two together to make a square. However, as the tables are 8 feet long I think that the square idea would just look silly and I am not a fan of the long-row setup. Would it be totally tacky and ridiculous to just leave the tables free-standing and placed individually throughout the room? I have not been able to find anywhere that a bride has done this setup before so I am thinking it is not a common preference.

Re: Rectangle tables- HELP?

  • It may not be a common preference, but if it works for you, it's fine.
  • I love the look of long tables.  To me, it makes the table feel more like a dinner party.  If you're not a fan of putting them end-to-end and making the tables super long (I am), then it's fine to just place them individually.  Do long table runners and set your centerpieces on them.
  • I don't really see the problem.  Are rectangular tables supposed to be tacky or something?  I'm having my reception at a restaurant with a mix of different table types.  There are long, permanent rectangular booths seating 6-12, and then there are round tables seating 8.  Is it just that you personally don't like longer tables, or were you under the impression that weddings always have round tables?  Because I don't see the big deal... Wink
  • We're going to have rectangular tables at our reception  - those 8ft x 2.5ft ones.  We're planning to set them up with spaces in between the tables and sort of put them in rows, with an aisle down the middle (ceremony & reception are in the same room, so we're having guests at their tables for the ceremony, and the aisle between tables is what i'll be walking down).  Nothing wrong with banquet-style tables IMO :)
