Re: fish!!!

  • What's with the tree huggers on this thread? If she wishes to use a fish as her centerpiece she should be free to do so. The decision is hers. At least none of you are invited to her wedding. I can't understand people sometimes.

Didn't read this whole thread but I agree 110% with those who do not think this is a good idea. Even if you do not see a problem with using live creatures as props/decorations - and there is a VAST difference between being in a tank at home and being used in a centerpiece in an environment with major sound waves enterring the water (basic physics) - I will wager that a significant portion of your guests might be horrified or at least turned off and they will not say it to your face. Just a thought.

  • GREAR IDEA!!!! Ignore all the negative comments. And I would love to see pics :)
  • **Opps I mean GREATTTT
  • If you really like the idea of fish, there are realistic-looking fake fish, including tanks with fake fish that move. They'll appear to swim around and be pretty, won't die or do anything else unpleasant, and no actual living things will be harmed in the making of your centerpiece. This might be more expensive, but it's less likely to cause problems, and guests will want to take them home!

I've also seen a similar thing with a fake butterfly in a jar that flies around (attached to an almost invisible wire) and it moves in different patterns when you tap the lid (fun for guests!). Check these options out for an animal cruelty-free reception!
  • Even though the fish are decoration at home, they are in a controlled environment. They don't have curious little kids sticking their hands in their tank, they don't have stupid drunken boys being irresponsible and careless (who knows what ideas they will come up with), they don't have music pumping, people running into their stands which will make their bowl move and slosh; or stupid people who may put food/drink in their tank. Its just not a good idea - and what about all the animal lovers at your wedding who, when drinking, may not hold their tongue when sharing their opinion of your live centerpieces. I am a firm believer in that it is your wedding, it should be how you and your fiance want it to be, but it may be easier and less stressful on you and the fish. I believe fishbowls with water and a flower or a floating votive are gorgeous as centerpieces, then you still get the water element!
  • [QUOTE]In Response to Re: fish!!! : I would too- I would say fish centerpieces pretty much top the list for worst reception idea ever. Well except for the Alice and WOnderland girl who wanted to have bunny centerpieces b/c you know they are so cute, and fluffy and they would never poop or pee on the table. Using fish does not make your centerpieces cool or unique it makes you look like an asshole

Agreed. Fish can be beautiful, absolutely. I've had many. But even with me trying my test to take care of them, they can die pretty easily. They are NOT for decoration.
