Summer weddings on a Tuesday

My wedding is going to be on a tuesday. But I cannot change it. The thing is. What time should I do the wedding if its going to be in the summer, on a tuesday? How long does a regular wedding last? Should I start the Ceremony around noon or something..?

Re: Summer weddings on a Tuesday

  • Does it really matter?

You are already picking a date that is not convenient to most of your guests (I admit I might be assuming that).  Why does the time matter?\

I'm going to say that the later the better, because of work.  Then again the later makes it inconvenient because most might have to work the next day.

Again, I'm not sure it matters, people are going to be annoyed regardless.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Won't most people have to work then?

  • I really think you are going to have a poor RSVP rate if you are married so early in the day on a Tuesday.  Can you give us some backstory and then maybe we can help with suggestions/ideas?

Do most of your guests work "normal" 9-5ish hours?  If so, I think that starting mid-afternoon, so they could take an hour or two off from work or miss the ceremony and get there for the reception would be best if you can't change the date, and that way you're not having the reception go super late.  (I'm also assuming no travel time here.)

You don't say much about whether you want dancing or what you want the reception to look like.  You could do a cocktail party that's on the shorter side with heavy apps and dessert, and then you could start entirely after work.

ETA: Also, you asked how long a regular wedding lasts.  I think you need to focus on what will work best for your guests and what you hope to have, because it's an unsual day to have a big, 5+ hour wedding.
  • Why can't the Tuesday date be changed?  I agree with pps that you're going to have a very low turnout if you insist on a mid-week wedding, whether it's summer or not.

<div>Unless all of your family and friends work at restaurants or something where Tuesday is their day off, no one is going to come.  So, it really doesn't matter what time you have it.  </div>
  • I think it really depends on your guests.... do most of them live close by?

Or are you having a destination wedding, with most of the guests flying in from all over?  I have some friends who are having a destination wedding on a Thursday.  It seems to be working out ok for them- I think many of their guests are turning the trip into a mini vacation.

If your guests live close by, I would try to have a late afternoon/early evening start time- it's more likely that guests could leave work an hour or two early than it is for them to miss a whole day of work.
  • I would really like to know the reasoning behind a Tuesday wedding and why you absolutely cannot change that. Please don't tell me it's because of the date. (please, please, please, please). I can't think of many reasons you can give to not change your date that I wouldn't think were lame.

  • Whoa. Guys, her wedding date says 2015. OP, come back and explain!

  • Our wedding is on a Tuesday, at 1pm. Getting married on the 7th was one of our top priorities. We also have families in Europe and wanted to make sure they could catch the live broadcast of the ceremony at a decent time (9 hours time difference), hence the early afternoon ceremony. In our work field a Tuesday or a Sunday don't make much difference since people's schedules are unpredictable anyways.
If your situation is similar to mine than it's fine, otherwise a weekend day is preferable.

nice catch, artbyallie.  OP, If your wedding is really 4 years away, it's much too early to set a date.  Enjoy being engaged.  Worry about a date in 2 years.
