tea party?

i'm havng a mad hatter tea party inspired wedding.  what i am unsure about is what to serve for food!  i could go both ways, either a sit down meal or tea time snacks.  any suggestions?  does it really matter what time of day i serve what? anything would help

Re: tea party?

  • If your reception is during a meal time then guests will expect a meal.  If it's between lunch and dinner, then you're fine doing tea time snacks.  It all depends on when the wedding is.

  • If you want to maintain your tea party theme, you could serve a sit down meal but make it tapas style.
  • CMGr, I think the OP wants to have a Mad Hatter inspired wedding, not an actual tea (think Alice in Wonderland).

FinFan - if your wedding is at meal time, I'd serve a regular dinner. Don't try to make the tea theme go too far, because I think decor will go a long way. A signature drink would be fun, find a cocktail you like and maybe call it the "Mad Hatter's Tea" :) Petit fours, cookies, and cakes in pretty pastels would be great for dessert.
  • I think as long as you present it well you can go either way. If you serve a full meal you could do tiered centerpieces of tea party desserts. Or your centerpieces could be teapots and mismatched cups and saucers. If you're doing the reception at a meal time make sure you serve a meal. You can definitely still keep to your theme with the right decorations!
