Winter wedding--offering shoes/flip flops to dance in?

Hi guys! I really like the idea of offering flip flops for guests who want to get down and boogie without going barefoot. I have a family full of dancers (including myself!) so I completely understand the want/need to get out of those heels. The problem is, my wedding is in the middle of winter! Would it be a faux pas to offer flip flops? Or should I go with ballet flats instead (if you guys have suggestions for cheap ones, that'd be great)? Obviously it will be heated inside, but I feel weird about this. What would you think? Any thoughts/advice would be helpful. Thanks!!

  • Winter time, I always have nylons on my legs so flip flps would not work.  Personally, I've never felt comfortable dancing in flip flops and always wind up having to take them off and go barefoot.

  • Have you considered buying inexpensive ballet flats?

<div>Yes I had mentioned that in my post, but I haven't been successful in finding anything super cheap (similar to flip flops). Any suggestions?</div>
  • Personally, I feel that guests know the appropriate footware to wear or bring.  If they decide on heels, I'm sure it's not their first time wearing them.  And I never understood the flip flop thing.....they're not really comfortable to dance in.
  • You will have to be more aware of sizes with ballet flats.  I'm also considering offering flip flops at my fall wedding within the bathroom's "just in case" offerings, next to nylons and band aids.   If people need them, they can grab a pair. If they're not interested, see band aids :)

  • I am with PPs, in that most women will be wearing pantyhose, tights, pants, or boots to keep them warm in the winter, and won't be able to change into flipflops.  Besides, have you ever tried to dance in flipflops? It's downright dangerous sometimes.  I would forget the flipflops and trust my guests to choose their own appropriate footwear for the occasion.  If they choose to wear shoes that hurt, that's their problem, not yours.
  • Thanks guys! After thinking this through I'll probably nix the idea altogether :)
