Question about White Linens

Hello fellow Knotties,

Our reception hall provides us with WHITE linens, that hit right at the seat of the chair on our tables (tables are oval shaped, by the way.)

The hall has gorgeous ivory/champagne colored walls and warm tones with the chairs and carpet.  My colors are black, light pink and plum.

I am concerned that the white linens will take away from the softer, subtle colors I have chosen, and even clash with the champagne tones and look very cookie cutter and tacky.  However, it would be nice not to have to go rent linens for every table when these are included in my rental fee.

Does anyone have any ideas for how I can still use the white linens that are provided but disguise them or cover them with another linen overlay?  I've seen this done on wedding shows before where the overlay is somewhat transparent and even sometimes has a texture and it can transform the white cotton linen underneath into something more elegant.

Any idea what color of overlay I would use or how I could make it work on an oval table?

Or should I just stick with white?

Thanks!

Going with an overlay or a table runner would be a nice idea. You can buy them for cheap off of a few websites and then re-sell them to other knotties after your wedding and get some of the money back.

The colors in your reception hall sound gorgeous! You could also skip the overlays or table runners and go for a soft candle light on the tables that would give off a glow and maybe even disguise the white linens as ivory. Just remember though, that most people won't even notice! HTH! :0)
  • Honestly unless the overlays are really something that you want I wouldn't worry about it. Wilth plates, silverware, glasses, centerpieces and possibly favors on the table you really wont see that much of the linen. And on top of that once you dim the lights in the reception room they wont look that bright.

  • Our reception location also includes white linens in the package and we are planning on adding overlays.  Great way of dressing up the linens without the full expense of renting tablecloths.

For your colors I think it would work well to keep the overlays fairly neutral in color.  For instance I think slightly shimmery champagne overlays would soften up the white tablecloths without being too distracting or taking away from your colors.

    Thanks for the advice!

Since I posted, I've been browsing the Knot boards and fell in love with the color aubergine (also called eggplant, but aubergine sounds prettier haha).  I think instead of black, I'm using this color since it's such a deep purple.  Then, I thought I'd replace my plum/light pink combo with a complimentary pink (like pink lavender or petunia) but use it sparingly--bright flowers, maybe bright ribbon, maybe a dash of it on the invites and programs).

I like the idea of a shimmery ivory/champagne overlay over the white linens and then candles to make it even warmer.  I think that idea will go great with my new colors!  Here's a link to the photo that changed my mind :)
