need a gift table?

I'm wondering if we should have a table set aside at the reception for wedding gifts? We're going to have a card box, probably at the escort card table, but I don't know if we should make room for gifts or not. One, that seems a little presumptuous to me, and two, there are going to be two showers before the wedding. I realize that not everyone coming to the wedding is going to be coming to the showers, but don't people usually send gifts to the house prior to the wedding?

not always. ours were about 60/40.........60% ahead of time, 40% at the wedding. a lot of guests will expect a table, just so there is a known area of where to put your gift. otherwise, there is an awkwardness of "what do we do with it?" we put the card box with the table.
  • We weren't really expecting any physical gifts at our wedding but we had a small gift table with the card box.  We had about 4 or 5 gifts so it was nice that there was a place for our guests to put them.

  • We had a small table with our card box, guestbook and for gifts. We actually got more gifts at the wedding than I thought we would so I'm glad we had space on the table.

  • Yes, you do.  Otherwise as pivko said, you'll have people who do bring a boxed gift walking around trying to figure out what to do with it.  And I'd put the card box on the gift table as well.  I've never been to a wedding where at least a couple of people, and usually more, bring a boxed gift with them.

  • Definitely provide a table... but don't assume it will be used/filled with gifts. [:

  • I would provide a table, even if it's a small one. It's better to be safe than sorry! :)

  • Depends on your crowd. I didn't have one and didn't need one. Every gift we got at the wedding was an envelope except for one that was a boxed gift. But I knew that would be the case since money is the norm in both of our crowds.
  • Agree with most of the other posters. Just get a small table to put the card box on, that way incase some people show up with a gift, there is a place to put it.

Until reading some of the other posts, i did not know it was normal for them to send it to the house prior to the wedding. Im just the type i normally bring a card with a check just so i dont have to tote it around lol. So you may have that among some of your guests not knowing protocal.
