Table Linen Help!

My venue has white table linens, and I was hoping to use table runners or overlays in dark brown (one of my colors) to make the tables look a little more elegant. However, I just found out my venue uses 85" square linens on 72" round tables. To me, that doesn't sound like a large enough tablecloth in the first place, not to mention that most overlays are the same size as their tablecloths, and I'm not sure if a runner might look silly on such a short tablecloth.

So, I guess I'm wondering, is it just me, or does their tablecloth sizing seem odd? Does anyone have any suggestions for what I could do to make the tables look a little more elegant and less "plain white" while keeping on a budget? This isn't something I'd planned on spending a lot of money on!

Here's a helpful website for linen sizing. What you say the venue is providing is about the size of an overlay for your tables.

I would agree that I think runners look best with linens that hit the floor.

You could get another overlay (in chocolate) that's the same size as the white ones they are providing and have them cross? Something like this:

  • I agree with PP idea.  The 85" table cloth probably just hits at your guests knees...that way they aren't getting snagged in the floor length table cloth

  • My venue uses ivory linens that are about that length too. So we bought floor-length linens in hunter green to put underneath, and are using the venue's linens as the overlays.
