Chosing a Reception Venue

I'm at a loss of what to do, my wedding is a year away and the venue I fell in love with when looking at my fiance's sister's wedding photos is completely booked for our day.  My parents have been aprehnesive about checking venues out and I am getting extremely irritated with them. Any ideas on how to ease the tension as well as finding a space without being disappointed? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Chosing a Reception Venue

  • 1) Is your date flexible?  Is the venue available on another day?

    2) Do your homework before talking to others.  Make a list of venues that fit your size guest list and your budget.  You might have to call the venues to get prices and sizes.  Rank your top three choices.  Go see those.

  • What are your parents apprehensive about?  Cost?  Finding a place?
  • Is your date set in stone?  Do they have any Friday's available?  My venue was booked every Saturday for the next year, but they had several Friday options, and it saved money to get married on a Friday evening.
  • They are aprehensive about the cost and the comfort of those attending the wedding. It's just been a stress load and to be completely honest a huge load of overwhelming!
  • Thanks to all of you for your help! We were able to figure everything out!
