Reception Time...Outdoors...Help!

Need advice!

We are having an outdoor wedding in our backyard. I am doing a cool light display in our trees, tents, etc and I wanted people to arrive at 7 and start eating around 7:30. Is this too late?

I want people to see the cool light displays as they are coming on, thats why I would like to do a later reception.

Notes: we are having drop off catering, the ceremony is private and earlier in the day, the wedding is in august so the sun goes down around 8, and we arent doing any of the traditional toasts, first dance, etc etc.

Is it to late?

Advice, opinions, please!

I don't think that's too late.  Are you having cocktails and apps as people arrive?  I would have drinks available and at least some veggie trays and cheese and crackers for people to snack on, since they may arrive at different times.  

Are you having any guests at your private ceremony?

I agree with the PP i would have drinks and snacks and 7 isn't too late.

According to your bio, your wedding is in August, 2013.  It isn't usually dark by 7 or 7:30pm in August, is it?    If you want your guests to see the light displays as they arrive, It doesn't sound like 7pm will work.

you can have snacks at the sign in.....keep it cheap..dress them up....with affodable dishes...thrift and fleamarkets
