Would you be mad if FMIL got a champagne colored dress?  I am very upset about this!

I will say I had an ivory dress with champagne running through it. Both my mom and MIL asked if there were any colors to steer clear from. I just asked no white, ivory or champagne. Yeah, FMIL buys a champagn dress after she asked me if she could buy it and I just simply asked if she could not get that color. gets it anyway - I think that is what angered me more really. Anyway, I was very upset over that. I mean, really, no big deal but it was important to me. Guests did question it too which I was surprised.

So I guess my advice now is to let it go if you can. It may take a bit which is fine because everyone gets upset over different things but don't worry about it.

My mom got a champagne dress, and it has a train, and has more bling then mine does, and we are doing a special bustle for her.Honestly, I didn't even care what my BM's wore.... wear a white knee length dress to my wedding for all I care, chances are, I won't even notice that day. I had my BM's in light blue, at the store they were all ummm we like dark blue better, sure why not! I just care that all the dresses fit them how they want, that they are happy with how they look, and that they feel pretty (going towards bm's, mil's, my own mother, etc.)People close to you are just so excited for you that you are getting married and want to look nice for you, and for themselves, let them rock the color they want. (disclaimer, I know most people would be peeved about a white dress, so i'm prob. in the minority about this, I'd care if another girl showed up in a white wedding dress, but that's about it).

Val - If they asked, and I had a preference, and they did it anyway... then I'd be more hurt they didn't care what I thought, not so much they got a certain color dress. Don't ask if you don't care what the response is!!

Yes, that is what I was more upset about. Why ask then if your going to do what you wanted. Petty, yes but it was important and a respect IMO really. Oh well.

That was part of the problem.  She asked what colors to stay clear of and I said any shade of white including ivory and champange.  I guess that's what's frustrating

Eh, it's still not white so I wouldn't worry about it.

Not at all. A friend of mine, her FMIL got an Ivory dress and the Bride wore white...and she wasn't mad at all. I don't see what the big deal is, its a dress.

I had an ivory dress and my MIL wore champagne. I didn't give her or my Mom any criteria about their dresses so, no, I was not upset.

I wouldn't be at all.  I was just thinking earlier about my mom wearing a champagne colored dress.  But I agree that I would be upset if I was asked and my answer was completely disregarded.

My MIL mentioned wearing off white, which was the color of my dress.  I kind of rolled my eyes and laughed, because it was totally not a surprise.  She ended up wearing black. This is story is dripping with passive aggression and symbolism.
