Brunch Reception- what to do?

Other than eat... what else is traditional/common for a fall brunch reception?

I am hoping to do a rooftop hotel deck for a brunch reception, with a photo booth favor thing, and a huge brunch buffet w/mimosas, bloody marys, etc.  We will also have some yummy cupcakes at the end in some unique breakfast/fall oriented flavors.

There will be the traditional speeches, but is there anything else that needs to be done?  I think dancing after brunch would seem silly, but I know some people pull it off well.  I'd rather hire a small instrumental band to play throughout the brunch.

Help- I want to make sure this isn't boring for my guests.

Re: Brunch Reception- what to do?

  • We are doing a short brunch reception and just having a string trio play while we eat and mingle. Don't worry about filling the time with activities.

It sounds lovely to me.  You can still do a first dance with your husband, and all the traditional spotlight dances and bouquet/garter toss if you choose.  I think it sounds nice and relaxing and this way you can really spend time with your guests which is the most important thing anyway.  Even though I loved my reception, I'm always slightly jealous of brunch receptions!
