Sweetheart table, or not?

I'm back and forth on whether or not I want to do a sweetheart table for my reception. My bridal party is very small....only my sister and FH's brother. So, the head table would be only us 4. Has anyone ever seen this. Would it be weird? Or would we be better off having a sweetheart table, and our siblings can sit with our families. It's probably important to note, as of now, our siblings will not have a date to bring to the wedding. Thanks for the advise in advance!

Re: Sweetheart table, or not?

  • We had a small bridal party (two attendants each, and one of my BMs was married to one of his GM), and it was easiest to just sit them with their families/friends, and have us sit at a sweetheart table.  I would definitely recommend this over a "head table."

  • I would say do the sweetheart table. You can sit your sibling anywhere. How old are these siblings? They might not want to sit with their parents- do they have friends attending you can sit them with?

  • Since your head table should include the SOs or dates of your BP that would actually be 6 people. DH and I had a sweetheart table and it was the best decision we made.

  • I agree with Hoboken. We were very pleased with our sweetheart table decision b/c it was the only private time we had all day.

  • We also did a sweetheart table as we only had a MOH and BM for a wedding party.  Worked out great.  They sat with their SO's and other guests.
  • If you are not really wanting a sweethart table, there are other options. You could sit at a round table with family, friends, or a combination. With or without your BP. I'm doing a retangular head table, with people sitting on both sides. Us, BP, siblings, and dates.

This is what we did. A long rectangular table with our BP and their dates (all spouses). We wanted to spend time with them as well as with each other, and it worked well. I'm not sure how well it would work with only 4 (or 6 with dates) people, though. Then it might be better to sit them at another table. Or, include more people at yours ie. your parents, etc.

She mentioned in the OP that their WP members were not bringing dates.

OP: I would probably just seat your WP members with you at a regular round banquet table, along with a few other people you would like to sit with. There's nothing wrong with a sweetheart table; I just didn't like the notion of everyone staring at us and enjoyed socializing with other people at dinner.

Either is fine; just realize there are other options besides head table or sweetheart.

  • We only have two people in our WP.  We are sitting at a regular table (not a head table) with those two people, their SOs and our parents.

  • FI and I are a little older (as is our wedding party). We have a small wedding party and we're going to seat them with their families.
