Garter/Bouquet Toss

Hi All,
I'm hoping you can help me out. I'm planning my mother in laws wedding, which is next weekend. She wants my husband and I to do the garter and bouquet toss. She doesn't feel comfortable doing it, but thinks we would make it fun. I'm sure we would, but is this appropriate?
Thoughts?

Re: Garter/Bouquet Toss

  • Just to clarify... she wants you to wear a garter and have your husband throw it? And she wants you to throw her bouquet? Or will you have your own bouquet?
    Either way, it sounds weird.

  • LOL I would wear my own and have a bouquet to toss.

    so awkward.

Garter tosses and bouquet tosses aren't mandatory for a wedding, so if she doesn't want to do it she can skip it.

  • I'd decline: "MIL, this is your wedding.  If you don't want to do these things, they don't have to be done.  But please don't expect H and I to do them, because it's not our wedding and we aren't comfortable with it."
  • as a guest i cringe when those are done. imo they're just awful.

why on earth would you guys do this at HER wedding? ugh. just say no.

  • I think it's a pretty weird/bad idea. Just politely decline.

First thought that ran through my mind, how would this even be presented?

MIL gets on the mic: "Here's my son Mr. MLB83003 who's going to crawl up my DIL Mrs MLB83003's skirt for a garter in honor of my wedding day to SFIL!"

    *shakes head*
