Are placecards per person or per couple????

I was getting ready to order my place cards when I realized I wasn't sure if you are supposed to have one per person or one per couple? I'm using finger starfish as the placecards. What is the etiquette on this???

  • I've always seen it done per person.

  • I've always seen it done per couple lol.  I think either way is fine, just affects how much paper you need to purchase.  I'm personally writing them out per couple to save money and time.

  • We did by person.  The only reason why it might be tricky by couple is for couples that do not share the same last name.  Do you put it under her name or under his name?  For us, we did by person because we did cake pops...I know I wouldn't want to share a cake pop.

  • We are doing by couples.
  • I've never seen it done per person, unless seating was actually assigned, rather than just tables.

You'd be wasting paper by listing every person individually, and since couples/families are likely to be seated at the same table, I'd go by couple.
  • I've always seen it by couple.  If it's done by person what do you write if you don't know a +1s name?

</div><div>You would write "Guest of Mr. John Smith", technically. I think it's silly though. Couples makes much more sense to me, personally.</div>

<div>I'm doing this by person and now I have to track down everyone's name- so it may be easier to do by couple. </div>

  • Do you need your place card to indicate the guest's meal choice?  If so, you will probably need to be one card per person.  If this is more of an escort card, by couple or family would be fine.  We did a place card for each person, since we had to designate meal choices for our venue, and an escort board directly guests to their tables.
