QUESTION: instead of a rental photo booth...

I love the idea of a photo booth, but they are so expensive, so I thought I could set up a fun scene where wedding guests can take photos. My fiance can build a small fake wall and insert 2 or 3 large gilded picture frames so people can stand behind the wall and stick their heads in the frames...

But how do I light this? It will be indoors in the evening, and I want the lighting to be good so people can take photos at their leisure. I just want it to be a fun activity, maybe throw in some funny hats or glasses, and let them take as many photos as they wish with their own camera.

Does this sound insane? Has anyone done this or is planning on doing it?

TIPS PLEASE? :)

  • There's someone on the DIY board that did their own photobooth.  They have an extensive blog detailing what they did for DIY including what they used for the photobooth.  I don't know her SN, so you might want to post this over yonder.  You should get responses back.  HTH.

  • I went to a wedding where they left out a polaroid camera with a blank book, tape and a pen. We they took pictures of each other and taped them into the book and wrote a note. I really liked that .

  • My photographer does her own "photo booth" She sets up on a plain wall - she brings a bunch of props and she and/or her assistant run the photobooth as dinner is being served and while people are eating. She says it works out well because there is always down time while some people are waiting to be served and while those who have finished eating. So people can go and have their pictures taken how they want... and have fun with it. The only down side is that they dont get to take home photobooth print outs, but I'm not paying any extra so I plan to print out a photo for each person with my thank you cards. Its worth mentioning it to your photographer!
  • I am going to be doing my own photobooth. Just go into a fabric store and get a really cool back ground. From there we are just getting fun props, a garage sale photo frame, chalk board... just fun and easy stuff.
