Please help... I Need Color Suggestions!!!

So we're going for a formal / black tie feel for the reception... and am looking for some ideas on a color to accent the room / make it pop. My dress has a sash that comes with it... and can order it in whatever color I want.... I just dont know what color I should choose!  I'd use the same color of my sash for the bridesmaids.... and also to accent the room with centerpieces / decor.... I'm just having a hard time deciding on a color and would welcome any suggestions that someone else may have... we're keeping it a basic black white and gold but feel its a little too bland and need some color to liven it up.  The space is a beauitiful ballroom, built in the 1920s so not wanting to overpower the beauty of the building itself....  and the wedding is December 1st, 2012....  please help!  I'm in despirate need of inspiration.  Thanks ladies.... <3

  • The good news is that just about any color will go with black, white, and gold.   I am partial to jewel tons like deep reds, greens, purples, and blues.   I think based on the description of your room, one color is fine.   Does the room have ANY color at all?   Carpet?  Drapery?  Chairs?   If so, then you could try to do something that will compliment (instead of clashing with) that color.   If not, then I would just pick your favorite of all the colors your sash comes in, and go with that:-)

  • I always thought black, white, and green weddings were pretty (clicky).

  • Red or a deep burgundy would be nice, unless you're afraid it'll seem too Christmas-y! A deep purple would be pretty too, and coordinate nicely with the gold!
  • I agree with PPs. I think jewel tones would look best and I especially like deep purple.
  • I was gonna go with a wine color but thought it would be too dark with black linens  and too christmas ish.  Now that I've read your responses.... thank you all by the way!  I'm thinking with the feel of the room which is very vintage as it was built in the 20's, keeping it neutral with a deep red.... may be perfect! I'm not a fan of bright red so am not sure what to do with my sash now.... I can always order it in champagne to tie in the gold... but am not sure just how to incorporate the color into the space... my ceremony & reception will be in the same place.... should I accent it with my sash?  Just with the flowers ?? What color to put the girls in?  Wow this is becomming a huge mess.... but I do appreciate all your comments!  The more I think of it the more I'm liking the color combo with the deep red.  I think it would be very striking and sexy too. I can do some uplighting with some amber tones to keep the room set in a vintage / cozy tone as well.  Thanks so much ladies!
  • If the room is a 1920's theme and you are using black, white and gold, I'd suggest a soft yellow and or burnt orange, aswell as an anitque blush tone.  Good floral references of these colours are (google the name), burnt orange/mango calla lilies, annie back orchids, charle brown cymbidium orchids and soft yellow cynbidium, aswell as porcelina or sahara roses.  If you want some depth I'd never shy away from eggplant tones, and seeing that the wedding is in december the eggplant with the softer tones will give a warmth to the over all feel.  Also keep in mind with your bouquet and the bridesmaids, if you live in a cold winter climate and if you want picture takin outside be sure to tell your florist, flowers will wither in - temperatures, so other words no roses in pale tones in your bouquet and the girls.  white roses after frozen will turn brown(not pretty). Hope this helps.
    Congratulations!

    Wine would be beautiful

Ivory bridal dress with a gold sash.   Wine dark flowers with gold accents.  Put the bridesmaids in black as black is alwasys elegant and have coordingating wine and gold bouquets for them and yourself.

Amber uplighting in small doses would be perfect

  • I did black/ivory/champagne and although I did not have an accent color, I considered red and also blush pink.  Both totally different looks but both pretty.  I think a deep red like wine would be pretty.  I did champagne BM dresses but considered black as well.  I did all white flowers but my second choice was all red flowers.
  • Do you or your fiance have a favorite color? My favorite color is green and my fiance likes this color as well. Are you having an indoor or outdoor wedding. You should use the following website. Chrissy, She puts together fantastic palattes with options. You can look around by color as well.  http://www.theperfectpalette.com/

Personally, I would skip a brightly colored sash on the dress. I've just never liked the look for any bride (if not done perfectly, can look a bit tacky, IMO). I think a champagne or matching white/ivory sash looks classier.  It would save you a headache in this case, too :)

I think it would be nice to distinguish yourself from the BM's by carrying a bold, red bouquet. The BM's can wear red dresses, or gold dresses with a red sash. Their flowers can be more neutral (white/ivory) or have a few red flowers mixed in.
  • I'm getting married the day before you, and i am doing red gold and champagne, it will also be black tie but since  the hall will be decorated for christmas, we figured it would be nice to bring in a little of the holidays. . so i agree with the previous poster. :D
