How much candy for a candy bar?

I am doing a candy bar at my reception.  The favor boxes on the tables will be empty and the point is to have guests fill their favor box with candy from the candy bar.  There will be around 250 guests total...I have no idea how many pounds of candy to order!!  Does anyone have any experience with this?   Thanks!

I suggest 1/4 lb. per person.  Most people suggest 1/2 lb. which is what I did and it was too much.   Also you can take one of your containers to a place that sells bulk candy, fill it up and multiply the amount times your number of guests.

I am doing a candy buffet as well and I just got the candy yesterday from BJ's.  I am expecting about 125 guests.  And here is what I got.

(2) 56oz bags of regular M&M's
(3) 56oz bags of Swedish Fish
(1) 300 ct bag of Dum Dums
(1) 180 ct tub of Twizzlers
(1) 56 oz bag of Reese's Peanut Butter cup minis
(1) 5 lb bag of Tootsie Roll "midgees"
(1) 56 oz bag of Hershey's miniatures.

Keep in mind... you also have to take into consideration the size of the vases you are putting them in.  I have 4 tall cylindrical vases, probably a foot tall and 5 inches wide.  And I also have 3 other vases that vary in size but are smaller.

When I bought the vases, I thought about how I wanted the candy display to look.  This was before I started thinking about what candy I wanted in them.  You should check out Homegoods.  I got a really good deal on mine. 7 vases for about 7 bucks a pop.
