Wedding is 1.5 hrs from closest airport

We are having our wedding in my families hometown but this is an hour and a half away from the closest airport. We will have lots of people from out of town and we are not sure of what is the appropriate way in which to get them to the wedding and reception locations, especially because they are 20 from one another. We are on a tight budget and I am not sure we could afford a nice shuttle and a school bus just isn't our style. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Should we just provide car rental service locations from the airport? Do they give discounts for such things like hotels do when you book a lot of rooms?

  • I would think if they are flying in they would be renting a car?  I know I would be.  It is nice when  you can provide transportation but it is not a requirement.  I think when people accept a wedding invitation they know they are responsible for their transportation.  I wouldn't stress too much on this.
  • as long as you provide accomidation information your guests will rent cars and drive themselves. you can include the hotel info and then spread the word about car rentals.

This.  Guests do not expect the bride and groom to pay for everything (hotel, transporation, food, etc) if they decide to make the trip for the wedding.  I wouldn't stress yourself out over this.  Your guests are adults and most likely have travelled and had to figure out their own transporation before this.

  • If H and I fly somewhere for a wedding, we assume that we will be responsible for our own transportation.   Renting a car for a weekend isn't that expensive (roughly equivalent to one night in a hotel, or anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 of the cost of airfare).  It's also likely that families or friends will to to all fly in at roughly the same time so they can share one rental car.

I think it's definitely a "Midwest" thing to always think we have to pick people up from the airport.  Smile In fact, one of my coworkers is taking off from work for a few hours tomorrow morning for the sole purpose of picking up her holiday guests at the airport & taking them to their hotel.

Renting a car is incredibly inexpensive in the grand scheme of things. I think your guests will be OK.

<div>This. I would never expect that transportation would be provided for me. </div>
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I think you can rent a zipcar for like $40 bucks or something. Wouldn't sweat it- not your problem.

  • I'm having the wedding back home in Missouri. And there are really only 3 airports in the state. Thanks everyone! This makes me feel better.
