Unique Reception Venue???

I am looking for ideas even though you might not be in the Philly area...

We are trying to think outside of the box and hold the reception somewhere that is NOT a fire hall or country club,  Is there any where, generally, that you would suggest???

We visited some old mansions that were really cool but alittle small.  This is the line that we are thinking-old mansions, castles, etc.  But I ran out of ideas.

Re: Unique Reception Venue???

  • You should be able to use about any location. Some ideas include restaurants, theaters, museums, etc. Is there anywhere that has special meaning to you that is able to accommodate your guest list?

Your local board will be helpful as well.
  • My best friend held her wedding at Belmont Mansion; the ceremony and reception were in the same space.

Another friend held her wedding there with the ceremony and cocktails inside and a tent outside for the reception.

    Hope this helps.
  • If people can gather and eat and hang out there, it can host a reception.  A park, a movie theatre, a bowling alley, a rooftop...
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Definitely ask the Philadelphia board, and the South Jersey board as well.

I understand that the New Jersey State Aquarium in Camden can be rented out for weddings. Or how about the Franklin Museum or the Mutter Museum?

  • what about the library?  I know the NYPL rents out space for weddings.  If I were having a normal sized wedding (not the tiny one I'm having), I would love that .
  • I'm kind of in the same boat.  My fiance and I live in south Jersey and are looking for something non-traditional.  I was thinking of a wedding in the middle of a field.  Something low key, but classy.

Santorini2011, if you wouldn't mind passing along some of the places you thought were too small, I would really appreciate it!  We are probably going to have 100- 125 guests.

Good luck and I will keep you posted on anything I see!
  • Thanks  to all!

Demeoja-email me at santorini06252009 at yahoo.com and I'll send you what I have gathered...maybe it will help you...I really liked a few castles that I found in MD but they are too far from the church.

  • The Franklin Institute, The Constitution Center... there is even a ballroom above the building where they have the liberty bell.  The Center for Fine Arts... The Please Touch Meseum

With some of these "more unique" venues, keep in mind you'll be paying a space rental fee along with likely having to use their "exclusive" catering service and baker.  We haven't found one "unique" place that will let us bring in the cake.

Good Luck - if you find something else unique, please let me know, I'm still looking too!

  • Depending on your budgets-Elkins Park was pretty cool.  They were still finishing the renovations but the foyer was breathtaking!  Camden Aquarium looks cool but wasn't for us.  It would be perfect if you wanted to have a non-destination but still like a destination wedding.  I haven't been able to reach anyone at the Ben.  A friend of mine got married at Dockside because she knew the manager and her pictures were incredible.  I wonder if you could rent the space...
