Bathroom Attendant

Hi All,

We are just starting the planning process. I have fallen in love with this old historic house in my hometown that has just recently been restored (with no working pluming inside). The house is on a 4 acre park with park-like bathroom facilities outside. The bathrooms are as nice as park bathrooms can get. My mom and I are discussing hiring a bathroom attendant to keep them clean and maybe class them up a bit. I'm trying to work this additional cost into the budge and was wondering if anyone had any experience hiring a bathroom attendant and could shed some light.

thank you!

I think unless your budget is huge and you have a ton of money to spend on things you don't need, you can skip this.  It would be nice to have a bathroom basket (with basics, like hand sanitizier, tissue, tampons, pads, safety pins, etc.) to put in the bathroom, but I don't think hriing someone to stand in the bathroom all day is a necessary expense at all.
  • The thing with bathroom attendants is I always feel inclined to tip and they often have a basket out for tips. Your guests shouldn't have to open their wallets at all, but even without the tip basket (like if you paid the attendant a tip ahead of time to cover the night), as a guest, I would feel obligated to tip if she was in there cleaning up. I also think a nice bathroom basket with the essentials is enough. I wouldn't worry about hiring someone unless you have a ton of money leftover in the budget.

  • Make sure they are well-cleaned before the wedding and consider adding a bathroom basket--or even some nice-scented soap and lotion with decorative paper towels--to make it look a little nicer.  I think it will just be weird to have a bathroom attendant.  If the bathroom starts out clean and tidy, it should not get trashed during your wedding.  If you're worried about water on the counters, running out of TP, and that kind of thing, I would just hire someone to check the bathroom 1-2 times during the event, but they don't need to sit in there the whole time.
  • What if it is raining the day of your wedding?  Your guests will have to go out in the rain to use the bathroom?  That by itself would take it off my list.
  • Bathroom attendants make me so uncomfortable.  They're just sitting there... listening to you pee or whatever.  How is that fun for the attendant OR the person who really needs a bathroom?

I cringe whenever I walk into a place that has one.
  • Yeah, skip the attendant.  Use the money to buy some great soaps and lotions at someplace like Bath and Body Works or The Body Shop.  Clean it thoroughly before the wedding and you should be good to go.
  • You could hire a cleaning/janitor company to check on the bathroom mid way through.  This eliminates the creepy feeling of someone standing there the whole time, and you can still know it can get a "freshened up" look.
