Honest Opinion: Is this tacky?

Re: Honest Opinion: Is this tacky?

  • Don't share your ideas with too many people.  Most wont understand it anyway because you have the whole theme and flow in your head.  I have learned my lesson and stopped 2nd guessing myself.  My wedding is in 29 days and this weekend is the last of the planning!   NO more 2nd guessing!  Run with it!
  • Of course NOT!!!! I would really love one!
So do post pix of the different frames you get :)

    G'Luck!

    Cool
  • I don't think so at all!  There will always be some people who don't "get it", but it sounds lovely and I am sure it will be a hit.
  • Thank you all for the feedback!  I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your honest opinions.

Hugs and best wishes to you!

  • No way!  I am going vintage too and I think that is cute!  They will appreciate the time and thought that went into it.  MAybe you could include a message that somehow references your love of antiques your search for the perfect man and search for a "treasure" in him which is similar to searching for "trasures" in antique stores.
  • I don't think it's tacky at all. It's thematic. Whether or not people like antiques shouldn't  concern you at all. It's your wedding. A useful favor is always preferred over something silly.
  • It's sad how the word 'tacky' gets thrown around to express something someone doesn't like.  Taste is taste and everyone's is different, do what  makes you happy and expresses your personalities! People should be excited just to see you two together and celebrate.

  • It's not tacky at all. You'll never know for sure if everyone will appreciate an antique frame as much as you do, but it's a nice favor still. Your friend is very rude (and tacky herself!) for saying that to you.

  • I don't think its tacky at all!! It is unique and it describes you; if anything I believe your wedding details should reflect you and your FH. Just always remember that it may not be everyone's style, but it is yours and your wedding day is about YOU and your FH.
  • NO not at all, I don't think it's tacky, it goes right along with your theme and honestly you don't know what people do with favors anyway. I work in the catering business and a lot of the f avors get left behind and people don't take them so do what you want and what your budget affords. it sounds absolutely fabulous!  Good luck!
  • Uhm, DEFINITELY NOT!! Though I am also an antique lover and therefor biased, I say go for it!! That would be a really great favor. I am doing a lot of antique or antique inspired styles/items for my wedding also. I think it brings a beautiful, traditional, almost quaint feel to a wedding that I personally feel is wonderful. I'd say--GO FOR IT!

You could even go for something like this too:

    found at : http://waxwizard.net/favors29.html

It's still a frame, and it goes along with the theme. *shrug* there are tons of great ideas for that theme. have fun!!
  • Not tacky.

& if some people there think it is, tough! It is your wedding, your theme, so you do what you want. I think it's a great idea.

  • Absolutely not. I think that's a really cool idea, especially since it ties into your theme. I'd totally love something like that if I were a wedding guest. I think uniques items like that are just the best. Especially if they're not all matchy.
  • I dont think it is tacky at all. Adding this personal touch and thought will be cool. Not everyone will like it everyone is different. I would love it. I think it is awsome.
  • Absolutely not, but I definitely wouldn't spray paint anything antique, it takes away from the charm and in the case of antiques the value diminishes too. I think that's an awesome idea and while you can never please everyone (as we've found during the planning for our wedding and reception) antique frames aren't likely to be tossed in a drawer somewhere and forgotten about. This is a really cool idea!
  • I don't think its tacky.  I love vintage stuff (anything vintage actually), of course you get the people that just call it "old", but who cares what they think.  I'm having Cigars because were cuban and I thought that would be original.  Don't really care what anyone else thinks.  Like previous people have said it's your wedding and if vintage is what you love then vintage it should be.  =)  Congratulations!
  • No way!  Good luck trying to find enough frames!  I love antiques.  And as long as they are cleaned and in good condition no one has any right to complain.
  •  I really like this idea for favors. I personally haven't ever been to a wedding where the favor wasn't tacky. If people know you, then they will know that this is really something you enjoy and therefore a gift from the heart. If they don't like the gift then who cares. This day is all about what you and your husband want and what makes you happy. The guests that you are having there and are paying for their meal and for their entertainment, should be honored to be included in such a special day. We are giving out Can Koozies as our favor. This is because all of our friends and family love to cook out and camp. They will be able to keep a drink colder longer. It isn't a favor that will end up in the garbage can. For those that don't like that idea then they don't have to take it.
  • I thinks its special, creative and classy.

  • No It's not tacky at all!
  • This is a BEAUTIFUL idea! I might just borrow it if that's okay with you! Laughing

  • Definitely not! I'd love a vintage/antique wedding favor. It's a really unique idea. I think you should go for it. If the guests don't like it, then that's their problem, it's gonna take a lot of time and effort to get them all.

    Good luck!
  • Forgive me if this is a repeated answer, there were too many responses to read ;)

Absolutely not tacky.  It's a favor that is a nod to your theme, and as long as you pull off the theme, the favor will be understood.

Now aside from that, it's a wedding, a day where people will be celebrating your marriage, not complaining about their favors.  You can't please everybody, but that's not the purpose of the favor either...

And finally, back to tacky...  I think bags of wedding colors M&Ms are tacky and not just cuz I hate M&Ms.  Your idea is fun and unique and speaks about YOUR personality and the wedding you are having.  Go for it and enjoy!!
So every sweet with sour is tempered still that maketh it be coveted the more For easy things that may be got at will most sorts of men do set but little store. Why then should I account of little pain That endless pleasure shall unto me gain?
  • Clareh, please feel free to use...when is your wedding?  Perhaps we could share some of our finds with each other.

If anyone is curious to know:

I plan on searching for frames no bigger than 4"x6"

I do not intend to spray paint them - I feel that would that would bastardize the vintage integrity of them

I plan to clean and polish each one

I understand the breadth of this project, but I am having a small wedding, have a year to complete this, and have some other antique freaks already on the task with me!

  • I think its a great idea.
