Pizza at the reception??

My FI wants pizza at the reception how can we pull this off without making it seem tacky?

Re: Pizza at the reception??

  • Maybe make it where people can choose their own toppings and it is made fresh, like a pasta bar, but with pizza.
  • We thought about doing individual gourmet pizzas. We thought having choices on the RSVP and then having plated pizzas brought to the guests. We still don't know if that's what we are going to do or not. Another idea is to do an Italian themed buffet. Maybe you could have gourmets pizzas, pastas and salads from the guests to choose from. Just some ideas!
  • Why is pizza "tacky"? Most people would rather have that than alot of foods that are served at weddings for the sake of being fancy, etc. Awhile back, on Snippet and Ink I believe it was they had a very upscale wedding that served pizzas from a woodfire pizza restaurant that offered off-site catering so they were cooked fresh on the spot and it didn't come across as trashy in the least. If you go the route of serving pizzas, go with familiar flavors that people like and will actually eat rather than exotic toppings just to be "classy" that they won't touch.
  • I've been to several weddings where they serve pizza as a snack later in the evening.  Awesome..
  • I love the 'pizza bar' idea-
If you have ever known someone that works for a pizza place, they only take a few minutes to cook up- you could have a bunch of really high quality ingrediants at a station, and have the caterer cook each individual pizza...
    yum!

  • We are doing mini pizza (veggie and quattro formagio) as one of our passed appetizers.

  • DH and I considered that option. Pizza with various toppings is an easy way to please the various food issues of guests. I love the idea of a made to order personal pizza maybe.
  • I love the idea of a pizza bar...I think we are doing that or a make your own nacho bar for later in the evening.  We are doing a cocktail reception so I definitely wanted more food as the night progressed.  But pizza is definitely not tacky.  My FI wants a 7 layer nacho dip for one of our appetizers and I thought THAT was tacky!
  • I think the only guests at your reception who will think pizza is tacky are the people who don't like pizza! I agree with Lasairiona that you shouldn't bother with anything fancy, but I personally don't even think the words "gourmet" and "pizza" belong together- so obviously it is a personal choice. If you could poll among some of your older guests to find out if they eat pizza (you never know between health conditions like heartburn or dietary restrictions like lactose intolerance that become more prominent with age) you can find a more "traditional" dish for those who can't/won't go for pizza.
