Disposable Cameras

We are putting disposable cameras on each reception table.  I bought the 800 speed ones with flash so that I should get some fun pictures.  Any ideas of how to decorate them a little bit to make them look nice just when people sit down.  It can be something that people remove before using the camera, just want that nice first impression.

Re: Disposable Cameras

  • I went to a wedding where the bride and groom provided every guest with a disposable camera. A bunch of the guests (kids and adults) started shooting close-up pictures of each other in some weird game where the point was to blind the other with the flash. The bride was my FI’s cousin and she was so disappointed when she paid to develop the film and most of it was close-ups of people’s eyes, chins, etc. I second PP’s opinion on returning them.

  • I agree, my sister had a bad experience with this.  There were just random pictures of nothing.  She paid a lot to have them developed and it totally wasn't worth it.  You could make up photo sharing cards instead, that way the guests can share their pictures with you on a website like shutterfly.

    Goodluck!!

  • I guarantee that even my crappy old digital camera can take nicer pictures than the grainy, blurry ones you're going to get from disposables.  I'd get your money back if you can.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • We are not having any kids at all.  95% of our guest I fully trust to take nice pictures.  I really do want them.  I understand that we will get plenty of useless pictures, but to me, I truly believe we will get enough good ones to make it a worthwhile expense.

Sorry, but I'm siding with the posters who said to save your money. I've heard of guests....yes, the adult guests......who after imbibing a bit, find it hilarious to take photos of the floors, ceiling, toilets, take photos looking up someone's nose, etc.

Really, by the morning after DDs wedding, she had so many photos that had been uploaded to a photo sharing site and fb!

ETA:  The only person I know who thinks disposable cameras are absolutely the way to go is my 80 year old MIL.

  • You could put them in a decorated basket with a little note attached.

I would also suggest doing photo sharing cards.  You can get them for free on vistaprint.(just use the business cards).  That way you can get both.

  • I like the photo sharing cards idea.  I know at the weddings I've been to recently that tons of people bring their own cameras and then the pics make their way to facebook pretty quickly after that.  I don't think there is a need for disposable cameras now in days.

  • I posted on this topic awhile back.  I was advised to do the same.  Honestly, it's a better idea to do the website and leave a card.  Return the cameras or sell them to another bride like I did.

  • I've heard horror stories of pics coming back that you wouldn't necessarily want to see...like a couple drunk mcdouche groomsmen take camera to bathroom and you get shots of areas that you would never want to see...or someone camera hogging and taking tons of pointless shots...I still plan on having some disposables, but I'm going to give them to the social butterflies so they can go around and take pics that my photographer might miss...I wouldn't really decorate them if I were you, unless you bought the already wedding themed cameras, I think they'll be just fine the way they are, maybe with a little ribbon tied around them or something simple. Don't waste any time or stress on decorating cameras imo.

So you're making your friends "work" at your reception by making them take photos with disposable cameras.  Nice.  Why not skip the cameras and let your friends enjoy the party too?

  • 1. Have you already bought them? If not I was looking at this website to get a few to put in my kid's baskets to keep them entertained for them to keep. You can do all sorts of things to decorate them.

    2. I'm not a huge fan of the disposible cameras since its expensive to get them developed so I'm doing the photo card route where people can upload their photos, that way all the guests can see them.
  • Since you already have the cameras I saw a picture where they decorated them in clear crystals (even spelling out the word love on one side) it looked beautiful.  You could possibly do the crystals to match your wedding colors too.

I am giving only my BM and FG bedazzled disposable cameras. It's just something fun I wanted to do while we get ready, ride to the ceremony, wait for the ceremony, and for the reception. I know people say it's a waste of money, but my BMs can decide whether or not they want to develop them...I'm pretty sure they'll want to. Just for fun. I can see what others are saying about not putting them at each table...very costly to buy and very costly to develop.
