Prayer/Blessing before Meal

Our pastor will not be attending the reception and my sister has asked me to say the blessing/prayer before the dinner at the reception. Does anyone have any ideas of where to get ideas? I've been doing alot of searching online and mostly see the Irish Blessing (which I might incorporate), but I'd like a little something more.

We're having a close family friend say the blessing over the meal.  He's just saying what comes to him.

Some examples I found by Googling:

"Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for the food we share tonight, in celebration of the marriage of _______ and _________.  We thank you for the love, guidance and support of our parents, family and friends.  We thank you for making this day so enjoyable, and bless those that have worked hard to make this day a success.
Thank you Lord for the freedom we have in our lives and the beautiful country we enjoy it in.  Heavenly Father, we ask this blessing for the newly married couple whom you have joined together.  Amen."

                            ---------------------------------

"For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
    For health and food,
    For love and friends,
    For everything Thy goodness sends."

    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

                                          --------------------------

"Giver to all things, as we gather for this banquet, we give thanks that we are again permitted to gather in this fellowship. May our friendships be strengthened and our lives be broadened. We give thanks for this food. Please bless it to our use and guide us so that we may help others be the best they can be. Amen."

I think I would look around a little for several examples, pick the things I liked best out of each one, and edit them together, to "customize" it.  Keep it short and sweet, 2-3 sentances, or a short paragraph.

  • We're allowing my Fiance's younger brother say the blessing. He says it for every family function and dinner every evening. He just goes with the flow with it.
