Outerspace/celstial themed wedding... ideas please!

OK girls. I don't want this to sound cheesy, so you're just going to have to bear with me:

I want an outerspace/celstial themed wedding!

I don't want it to have anything to do with the 5 point stars, crescent moons, space ships, aliens, etc. No 5 year old boy birthday party, if you know what I mean. I DON'T want the normal navy blue and ivory starry night wedding. I'd actually like the colors to be almost neon pink, deep purple, yellow, orange, etc. like you see in pictures of nebulae.

I just thought of this:

They're kind of jellyfish colors. Maybe I could do some sort of bowl with LED jellyfish inside on the table?

It's definitely unique, and I think those colors with the celstial theme could come out nice if done right.

As far as the jellyfish idea, you're getting off topic, IMO.  Jellyfish don't say celestial or outerspace to me.  I'd be careful to either stay on the theme, or decide that the "theme" is just going to be the neon colors.

Maybe for centerpieces you could play with water beads to create the illusion of floating color in space, maybe put a led light at the bottom to illuminate it..

I picked not sure yet. ONLY BECAUSE - I think, personally, and I can be told to keep my mouth shut, but the lights are so bold that you may need to down play all other details so that its not too in your face. But with that, I do love the lighting. I think you can make it romantic with these colors.

Moravian Star lanterns in your color palette could also make an unusual centerpiece without looking like a five year olds birthday party.  I would fill with LED lights and add white linens topped with iridescent overlays in your color palette.   The palette should be adjusted a little, Neon pink, yellow, deep purple and orange are all intense colors and there is no where for the eye to rest in that scheme.  If you want all of those colors, add white to give a place for the eye to rest.    Alternatively, you could select any two of those colors. 

A backlit slide show of nebula pictures behind your sweetheart table.  If you both wear white, you would stand out against the nebula show.

A darkened room can be a tripping hazard so you may want to look into rope lights to line the walkways.

I'm really not sure yet. I do agree with PP that with such bold lighting choices, you don't want to have the rest of your details as in your face. If done right, I think this could come out nice, its a very fine line before it becomes super cheesy though, so be careful.

Guests might not totally get where your theme came from, they just might think 'oh pretty colors' but I think it's an awesome and totally unique idea.

PP's have much better ideas than anything I could come up with, but I just wanted to say I the idea

I love the idea!  A few years ago I went to a formal event at our local planetarium.  The color scheme and lighting was very similar to what your first few pictures look like and it was a really elegant, beautiful event!  I would try googling planetarium weddings and see what you can find.

Thanks so much, girls! I did a little more searching tonight after seeing your ideas. I love the flower ideas and the moravian star ideas! Oh, also the jelly water beads!

I'm thinking the tables will be as follows:

- White linen with sheer/irridescent overlay, like someone said above
- Jelly/LED combos in unique vases on tables with the celosia (coxcomb) and/or craspedia balls in them
- Probably 1 in every 4 tables will have a candleabra instead of a regular centerpiece, with alternating overlay colors

I also want to incorporate some of the moravian lights into the decor! Very nice idea, but also very expensive. If i can find some cheap white, yellow or tin-punched lights, I'll be sure to pick them up.

Finally, favors! I really like the "wishing star sun catcher" that I found on this website. http://theglasssmithstudio.com/peaceful.aspx ... The prices aren't listed, but I love the idea.

Oh, and @ shopgrl:

I did actually talk about doing my wedding at the planetarium in downtown Grand Rapids, MI. It's way too expensive though, since we'd end up having to have everything there, including catering, etc. I'm looking into booking the planetarium for a day though (like schools do for trips) and having my friends/family go there for an hour or two after the ceremony.

I don't know if your venue is inside or outside or both, but I love the idea of having an area for stargazing.  Like, laying out some blankets to lay down on with some low lighting or something.  It could be romantic!
