Make your wedding unique- ideas?

As planning is starting to get into full-force- I'm feeling like my wedding is going t obe the same as every other one out there.  I'm pretty traditional, so a lot of it will be anyway- but I'm desperately trying to tihnk of little things that we can make it unique to us....   I'm sure that every other bride has had the same issue, so throw out some ideas of what you did/are doing to make yours seem unique to each other? Thanks!

We are big football fans so I made ticket seating and put the tickets on a football field I made. That was neat. No pics of it - still pissed about that one. I also did a tri-fold at each table. One of the sides had history facts of what happened the day we got married. People liked that.

I think our entertainment (dueling pianos) makes us unique, but besides that we are trying to insert some humor wherever possible.  We had some creative wording on our invitations and RSVP cards that people have really liked and commented on.

Wow neat idea-  FI & I are huge baseball fans- maybe we can incorporate something similar.   And I love the Deuling Pianos!! That's awesome!!! I wonder if we could do something like that for our cocktail hour.

bkallen - how about customized rally towels? That would be fun!

I'm changing some things that I don't really care for like the ceremony music, not too matchy matchy with the colors, NFL garter, feather centerpieces, edible favor, etc.  I want things to be fun and unique, but I don't want to look back in 10 years thinking, "what the heck was I doing?!?!"

steffiel - that's a neat idea, we cna have everyone wave them when we make our entrance at the reception... (you don't have any ideas where we can get them made, do you?)

What about something like a flambe show?  I saw this on Platinum Weddings, but it wasn't outrageous costing, surprisingly (around $500 for an hour).  Basically, they did a show for the guests with twirling and colored fire and all in between dinner and dessert.  I thought it was really neat, and it would give your guests that can't or don't want to dance something to enjoy, as well.

where are you having your reception? My venue had things that we could tailor to make it unique. Also, we had the BIG show (Ken Stillman) and that was something different as well! DH is from Boston, and obviously I am from Philadelphia, so we named each table after a Boston or Philadelphia sports team. You can also customize your guest book (i made mine on blurb) good luck!

Our reception...each table had a blank anniversary card that all of the guests at that table filled out.  We'd then open it up on that anniversary.  For example, we'll open up table 7's card on our 7th anniversary. We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary and it was fun reading the card.

DH and I made a speach and thanked everyone for coming.  I told the story about when I knew there was something special about DH (he held a bug in my face).  We also told the story about how DH gave me a black eye in the first few weeks of dating! (by accident. I think the stories helped show people who we were as a couple.

I know this might sounds silly, but JEGs an I are unique enough.  I don't want to go out of our way for the wedding to make it unique.  It's just a day that we are going to committ to each other.  Not a circus- you know?

We just tried to include things that were "us."  We brought our dog to our engagement photo  shoot and donated to Corgi Aid for our favors.  We wanted our wedding to have the feel of a fun party, so we kept the colors bright and cheerful.  We focused a lot on making the music unique, which included walking up the aisle to Ben Folds as played by two of our closest friends.  And oh yeah....we rickrolled the wedding too, which went over exceedingly well and which people laughed a LOT about.  The biggest compliment was got at the end of the day was how happy we seemed and how much fun everyone had.  Can't ask for anything more than that!

larosita reminded me....we played my favorite songs (dh isn't much into music) for the dinner hour ...not your usual frank sinatra songs.  So we played stuff like Sting 'every little thing she does is magic' and Vanessa Williams 'Save the best for last', etc.Oh..I guess we did represent DH b/c we played a few irish songs for him and italian songs for me.

bkallen- My FI and I are also huge baseball fans and have incorporated lots of Phillies things into our wedding.... We are doing baseball place cards instead of the usual ones.. like using actual baseballs. And we have just used other baseball themed things through out , but not over the top so its not turning into more of a party then a wedding :) wedding is in 4 days so pics will be posted next week :):)

I know someone who had Harry Kalas do a baseball line-up for their entrances into the reception, since they are huge Phillies fans.
