Toasting Glasses for Non-Champagne Toast?

I hate champagne and so does my fiance.  It makes us sick, something that I'm not willing to deal with on my wedding day.  I feel silly drinking anything else out of a tiny champagne glass.  Anyone else doing their toast with something other than a champagne glass?

Re: Toasting Glasses for Non-Champagne Toast?

  • We are using wine for the toast.

  • We are also not doing a champagne toast (neither of us like it, and most people I know take two sips and then leave it on the table before they hit up the open bar...waste of money!)

However, we received some beautiful Waterford Champagne Flutes for our engagement, and plan on using them for our toast (with wine or other drink) since they are special/sentimental value, etc.  But our guests are going to be using plastic cups (reception on the beach) with their drink of choice!
  • I think we're doing a wine toast. FI and I are huge wine afficionados so it's perfect. I think with our venue the wine glasses are included in the room rental costs, so everyone will just drink out of them. If not, we'll just have the wedding party do it.
  • At mine friends wedding she used a wine glass he used a beer mug. We recieved toasting glasses already so we are using either them or whatever I am drinking out of at the time. I will most like probably get FI and myself some cool beer mugs to use since we are big beer drinkers.

  • Whatever people happen to be holding at the time of the toast. Wine, cocktail, sparkling wine, doens't matter. Most of the people at the last wedding I went to had those small clear plastic cups with wine, it was still a nice toast.

We're using cava (Spanish sparkling white wine), it doesn't tend to be as dry as champagne, and is A LOT less expensive. If you compare it with similarly priced American sparkling wine, it tends to have more depth as well. For those who are underage/don't drink, I'm getting sparkling ciders from IKEA. The apple and pear are both really good, and at least where I live, I think they are around $4 a bottle, with price discounts if you buy certain amounts.
