cameras on reception tables

Has anyone ever heard how the pictures from kodak cameras put on reception tables turn out?  I'd be afraid of spending the money on the camers to have them come out grainy and hard to see.

Re: cameras on reception tables

  • I honestly think that this idea is pointless now a days.  Almost everyone has digital cameras and facebook so pictures of your wedding are quickly available to see almost the next day if not the same night if your friends use their iPhones.

    Spend your money elsewhere.

  • I've seen weddings where it was done, and most of the pictures didn't turn out well.  People do better taking pictures on their digital cameras and uploading them to facebook and tagging you in them.

Ditto Maggie. I think this idea was very popular in the 90s before digital cameras, but now it's kind of obsolete. I think it'd be a waste of cash. And you have no idea if the pics would even be good. If you wanted guests to share photos with you, you could consider setting up an online site (like Shutterfly, Wedding Turtle, etc) where they can share them in an album.

I agree. We just did this for my sister's wedding last April. I tried to tell my parents it was a dated idea, but my dad was in love with this idea. And like all the previous posters said, in this day and age, everyone with a digital camera will either upload pics to facebook or email them to you.

To give you an idea about the photos, I will tell you exactly what kind of photos we got off of my sister's 20 cameras. (Which cost about $200 to print, $10 per camera). The first couple pictures on each camera were of couples and guests sitting at their respective tables, after that the pictures got kind of random. One camera had about 10 pics of my cousin and his new gf kissing. One camera LITERALLY had a picture of a man mooning us. It was his butt. And another pic on the same camera was a cleavage shot. A third camera had 5-6 pictures in a row of a cousin covering her face (another cousin kept trying to take a picture of her but she wouldn't let him... but he kept trying anyway).

Any pictures actually of my sister and her husband (cutting the cake, first dance, etc) were not great quality. As they were not fuzzy, some of them were dark, and with there being no zoom button, some of them look very far away.

My suggestion to you, is to set up a website (on snapfish or webshots) that is a community account for your wedding day. Make the username TheSmithWedding and then the password something easy, like your first names. Print out business cards (very easy to do, you can go to staples or somewhere and get a pack of perforated business card pages) and list on there the website, username, and password. Write on there that you would love it if your guests would share their photos from your wedding day. In one easy spot for all of your guests to find. You can include this card with the favors, or name cards, or put someone in charge of handing them out.

I just randomly came up with this idea, and I love it so much I might do this at my wedding! Reason being, not everyone has facebook. Not everyone has my email address even. My older aunts/relatives do not have facebook accounts and this gives them one place to go to see wedding pictures. Even if they do not upload their own, they can see others. And with websites like snapfish, you can even order prints (Say there is a great shot of your grandparents and your aunt would like a copy of it).

    I hope this helps you!

  • If a camera costs you $5, and developing costs $5, and you have 15 tables that is almost $400.  If you really want pictures, I'd splurge for an extra photographer or a photobooth.

  • i would save the money.  who knows what pics you will get if a kid gets a hold them and who knows what pics you will get when an adult gets a hold of them.
  • The biggest problem I've heard is most cameras have 7 of the 27 pictures used, and so you have to decide whether to develop now and waste the majority of the camera, or wait forever to use up the camera and get the pictures, either way I've never heard of anyone getting good pictures. Setting up an account on a digital website and getting the info printed on business cards is great, I might have to steal this.
  • id save the money too!!

but i did see an idea on pintrest to make for some fun guest taken photos... a photo "i spy"

    here is what it said

    I SPY

Use your camera and look around
hunt for those pictures that need to be found
shoot away & complete the list
find moments the photographer may have missed

Group photo of everyone at your table
Photo of each family or couple at your table
    bride & groom holding hands
groom watching bride from a distance
    mother of the bride crying
    bride & grooms first dance
    someone making a toast
    groom playing with his rings
    best dancer (in action)
    bride & groom kissing
bride watching groom from a distance
    bride and her mother dancing
cutest couple (other than the bride & groom)
    favorite decoration
    people clinking their glasses
    bride playing with her rings
    worst dancer (in action)

you could maybe put a list on each table, or add it to the menu or program... and put the website to upload them to on the bottom!!!

here is a link to the pic! (if your having trouble visualizing a list)

While this *might* give people something to do, you're going to end up with 50 of the same photo.  If you're set on doing it, ask it to be done digitally.  Most of those things listed are the job of the photographer.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • I'm doing this only for the kids' table, primarily as a way to keep them entertained throughout the evening.  It'll amount to *maybe* to ten cameras.  So many people have their own camera phones and digital cameras nowadays that it'd just be a waste of money.

And the way our friends are given license, we'd most certainly end up with at least two pictures of someone's butt.  -.-
