Suggestions Needed!

I was out with my future mother-in-law this weekend browsing thru Michaels and JoAnn Fabrics just trying to get some ideas. I really like the square vases but am not sure what size to go with. I don't want the centerpieces to be too big that people are trying to peer around them the entire night but I don't want them to be too small. The size I like is between 6 & 7" tall.

And favors - I am clueless as to what to use. I was contemplating handmade soaps in small boxes that I had seen at Michaels but I don't know if thats cheesy and I don't know if I want to take on making 150 bars of soap (though 2 years might be enough time to do them in!). Wink I just want something a little different but not expensive either.

Thanks!

  • I won't be any help with favors, however if you're using vases for centerpieces don't go over about 10 inches high. We are using a 4", a 6" and an 8" for ours. Do a test table and see what it looks like, that will get you a good feeling for height.

My low centerpieces were right around 7 inches, and they were perfect, so that height should work fine for you.

My tall ones were in 24 inch vases and stood over 6 feet tall.

As far as favors go, edible really is always best. Non-edible favors tend to be left behind, thrown away, or put in a drawer to collect dust. Edible favors are almost guaranteed to be eaten and enjoyed.

  • I agree on edible favors.
I'm on somewhat of a budget, so I'm getting cute to go boxes and letting people pick their own sweets off the dessert/candy bar to enjoy later.
I'm not going to eat all of that!

If you wanted to be a little more classy, I saw in one magazine a really cute little idea with cheese and crackers for a midnight snack. I thought that was really nice!
You can get pre-packaged cheese that doesn't have to be refrigerated (vaccum seal for the win) and then some really nice crackers. There were fancy split boxes you could seal them in or if you're a crafty person (you're at Michael's so I assume you are) I'm sure you'll think of something neater to do them with.
My one friend made soap for her favors, but they followed a theme and had a little dice inside (we are a big gamer group). So if you didn't want to do food you could find a reason for them to use the favor?

I like candles, too. Does that help? lol!
  • There are plenty of favors out there that are more practical. For example, I've gotten a wine stopper at a wedding that I still use 2+ years later. However, I do think that edible favors are great when presented well!
