Hey ladies, has anyone used wine corks for their place card colders?? did you cut them your self or buy them pre-cut? where did you buy them from?? and did you get them customized??

  • I'm cutting them myself, it's pretty easy to do with an exacto knife.  We're getting married at a winery, and they gave me 100 corks for free.  I personally wouldn't spend the money on etsy for precut or personalized corks.  Do you have family and friends who drink wine and could save the corks for you?

  • Here are mine:

We bought the corks from Etsy for ike $10 per hundred.   You could just go to restaurants or a winery to collect them, but these are all "new" corks, and are natural cork (not synthetic).

We flattened the bottom using a belt sander, and cut the slit using an electric turkey-carving knife.  We tried exacto knives, and I must have been doing something wrong because it was really difficult to get the slit straight and uniformly deep, and even then the slit wasn't wide enough to slip the placecard into....plus the whole time I felt like I was going to slice a finger open....but the electric turkey carving knife is super-easy and works perfectly (and a little bit safer I think, since you don't have to apply so much pressure).

  • H brought corks home from work, we used ones we had, and I bought a bunch on eBay. We did ours different, 3 corks for each holder, tied together with a ribbon and stood them upright, placing the card between them. No cutting necessary.

We're doing this to hold our table number cards.  I was hoping two corks would be sturdy enough, although maybe I'll use three like you did.

Avion, that's a great idea!  Too bad we don't have a sander or electric turkey carver... maybe I'll register for these items haha.

  • I'm not doing this, but there's a wine store near my house that does tastings every Friday. My friend needed a ton of corks for a project and she asked them if they would save the corks for her. They did for free since they were going to toss them anyway. s there a place like that near you?

<div>Neither do we!  My dad does though, and it was actually his idea to use them.  Turned out great.  And now he's really excited about making them for us:-)  It's actually kind of cute to see my dad excited about place card holders.</div>

  • You can keep them, buy them on Amazon, or buy on eBay.  Wineries or a bartending school probably throw them out all the time.  We're thinking about doing this, but not sure yet. haha
