Small Wedding Help

FH and I were planning to have a smallish wedding. However, due to unexpected family issues (on BOTH SIDES!!), our wedding is going to be much smaller than we initially planned (probably >=25 guests). I'm trying to roll with the punches and make the best of the situation. The original plan was to DIY the music using an IPOD. We were planning to load a few hours of the usual wedding dance music and have a meal followed by dancing. Since the wedding is now going to be very small without many party animal guests, we feel like this would be very lame and no one would end up dancing.
So, we have the reception venue booked for 4 hours including cocktail hour and would like to serve a buffet lunch (reception is 11:30-3:30pm), followed by a cake cutting. In lieu of dancing, I need some ideas to fill my reception time and keep an intimate setting that my guests will enjoy.

Re: Small Wedding Help

  • That's super awesome vanmagam. I too am a small reception bride. I'm in TX and although our venues aren't that pricey, I still prefer something small and with only mine and STB hubby's family the total comes to 47. I too, like lvjudge1 have the same issue. The guest list has shrunk by 10 and I have already paid for venue so we are still deciding to either just have reception at venue and try not to look silly with such a big space or just lose the money and run to Maggiano's restaurant.Laughing Both are nice places and it's our special day so I will not compromise that, just want to have a memorable event without hassle, worry, and clean up and both offer this. Ugh, so perplexed. Now my STB hubby's family and mine are not much for dancers so what now? any ideas?

Glad to know I'm not alone. Thanks so much ladies.
  • We're doing a small reception as well. My 2nd marriage, his first. I've cut the list down to about 40-50 people. I honestly dont want to spend the extra money for a sit down dinner and thought maybe a Cocktail & Hors D'Oeuvres Reception. We're still tossing the idea around. As far as the Dj goes, that's still up in the air. However it still is a celebration and where theres a party, there should be music.
