Poll-Reception Decor

Okay I am deciding if I need to go ahead and use chair covers at my reception. the lights will be dimmed and the entire room will be lit with candles.  My mom and mother in law both feel that is unnecessary and a waste of money to buy the chair covers and sashes (total cost $1500) because no one will be notice.  I am one of those people that would notice something like that, but that may just mean that I am anal.  So I am taking a poll... would you notice chairs ????

Yes I would notice them.  But even if it were my own wedding, I don't think there's any way I would shell out $1500 for chair covers.

You don't need sashes--if it's $500 for just the covers, that I might do.  But really, if they are regular banquet chairs, they will be fine left plain.
  • Skip it and save the money. The only person who will notice the chairs is you. Your guest will pull them out and sit in them.
  • I agree with PPs, no one will notice them, and even if they did, it would not justify $1500. Think of everything else you could do with that money!

  • Skip it and put the money on something that really matters. I wanted chair covers or sashes, too, but they were just too damn expensive. And the chairs at the country club where our reception was were those rustic looking maroon and dark green chairs. They would have been really hard to cover anyway since they weren't your traditional chair.
  • If you have metal folding chairs, I would consider it but 1500 seems really steep.  We are not having chair covers and just rented nicer chairs since we had to rent the chairs anyways.

  • They have banquet chairs that look like this....(see below)  For what ever reason they are hideous to me. This is as close as I could find to the chairs.  the only difference is that the ones at my venue have a gold frame, but the cushions are the exact same color as shown here.

  • I don't think the banquet chairs will be that noticeable in a dimly lit room. More importantly, I think chair covers are absolutely hideous.
  • Good, bad, or indifferent, I'd notice the chairs, but I'm just weird that way. Whether or not you want to spend the money to get the covers is up to you and depends on your budget.
  • To be honest, I notice those details.  But $1500 is kind of ridiculous...have you shopped around for cheaper options?  By the way, even though I notice those things, I wouldn't think it was the tackiest thing ever if you didn't have chair covers.

  • I have seen banquet chairs with gold frames...I also thought they were hideous and if I would have ended up there, would have gone for chair covers. If it's that gold brass color...I say chair covers.
  • Very few people actually notice chair covers.  I would save the money and put it toward something else.

OMG my reception hall has those SAME CHAIRS!  And I'm not a huge fan of them either. But personally, I think chair covers and sashes are worse!!

I'm going to tell you what I keep telling myself... they aren't that bad, no one will notice, and its not worth the 1400 to rent chiavari chairs :)

Besides when I told my FI about this dilemma he said "ugh, those other chairs (chiavari) are so uncomfortable anyway" lol!
  • I would definitely notice those chairs, but $1500 seems like a lot for covers and sashes, unless you have a HUGE guest count. I would search online maybe for ones that are less expensive? Even if you have to buy them and then resell them after?

  • I think your chairs look nice and with the dim lighting, I don't think they'd clash with your colors (whatever they are).

    P.S.
Has anyone noticed that the gold on chiavari chairs can actually look really cheap?
  • I would notice but that is just me!! I have considered chair covers too as we have the same chairs at our hall, I have looked around and have actually found chairs I like better, that I can rent cheaper than covers!! I am waiting on confirmation whether we are allowed to do this though... fingers crossed. Just something to think about!!

  • I don't think I would notice.  Chair covers and sashes aren't really in style right now.  So, that's a lot of money to spend on something that to me looks kind of dated.
  • It all depends on what kind of chairs you have.

  • If it will bother you not to have chair covers, they go with chair covers!  At first, I thought it would be ridiculous to shell out all they want for chiavari chairs; however, my color scheme would not look as elegant without them.  I then decided to make the splurge.  Sure, many people won't notice or care, but remember... it is your day.  You only get married once!  If you can afford it, do it.
  • Also, if this is any help, I do notice the small details at weddings, including chairs.  Chairs can definitely make or break a venue.  What is the point of having beautiful flowers and tablecloths if you have crappy chairs?
  • I will definetely notice the chairs, but that's only me. I tend to pay attention to the details, but $1500 is A LOT to spend on that. Maybe do the chair covers and skip the sashes?
  • iv looked on kijiji and you can rent them for $1 a chair
  • I'm having chair covers and sashes because my chairs look very similar to yours and I don't like them.  I think chair covers look nice so for me it was important.  $1500 does seem expensive.  We bought chair covers for $2.00/chair and we're buying the fabric and making the sashes.  I'm using tulle for the sashes and the cost is about $1.00/chair.  We're inviting 300 so we're paying about $900.  On the down side we have to steam and keep 300 chair covers and make 300 sashes but for me it's worth the $600 savings.  Good luck and do whatever you think will look best!
  • $1,500 definitely seems steep. I'm not sure how many guests you're having, but for my 160 guests I got a quote of $450 to rent pretty nice chair covers and sashes (this was from a company that ships them to you and sends a container with return postage). Also, you could look into renting nicer chairs, probably for ~$4-10/chair.
  • Our guest list is at 206.  The chair covers and sashes are only $5 a piece but our venue charges an extra 29% on top of everything.
