reception foods...any thoughts?

Mywedding is going to be an outdoor/park/mothers day/picnic thing. Its actually on mothers day next year, perfect gift for me since im 20 weeks now (sry just really excited about the baby!!!!!). any way, what i wanted to do about food is 2 options:

sandwiches-ham and turkey, all the condiments, some side foods like deviled eggs, potato salad, chips (mini bags???)

the other option is all finger food...the kinda stuff served at superbowl parties, mini sandwiches, meatballs, lil weiners, chips, fruits, veggies, all that good stuff.

someone keep ssaying potluck, but i dont want potluck. i have alot of diabetic family members so alot of food has to be careful, plus everythign is at a park which is 30 minutes form anywhere in my town so keeping food at the right temperature without getting anyone sick is a big issue for me. I dont want anyone sick. so NO potluck...

any thoughts?

I vote for your 2nd option of finger foods, as long as there's a way to keep stuff cold.  The deviled eggs and potato salad can go bad VERY quick because of the mayo.  Congrats by the way!

And thank God you stood your ground on the 'potluck'. that is a horrible idea and a recipe for food poisining.  Honestly, even just cake and punch is OK for a non-meal time reception. and as long as you let your guests know ahead of time that the reception is just app's or cake.
  • I think either's ok. I'd be most concerned about keeping food appropriately hot and cold -- who's going to set up? how long before guests arrive? where will the food be before guests get there? etc.
  • That's why I'm leaning more towrads the sandwiches, they're easier to take care of, just place their trays in a pan with some ice and that'll keep them pretty cool. I am enlisting a few friends to act as "staff" who will help me get ready and everything but also take care of the reception area. They'll be setting up everything. The ceremony will be about 15 minutes, ceremony starts at 2 or 3pm,cant decide yet. Most food will be stored in large coolers with ice if it needs to be cold, and then store the coolers under the table with any extra food.

It doesnt even need to be alot, jsut sandwiches and chips. That makes my budget looks so much better with just those 2 things
  • Both ideas are great

I'm a big fan of snacks/appies/tapas style food so personally I would prefer option2 but I wouldn't be upset about option 1

Just make sure there is a vegetarian friendly option if you are having any vegetarian guests :)
