subtle chair covers or renting chairs

Hi all,

Our venue's chairs are basic black banquet chairs that look a little wornout...and remind me of something I might sit in at a conference at a budget hotel. I don't love them, but I think regular chaircovers look a bit silly, and I'm worried they'd distract from our flowers.

Chivari chairs would be great, but we can't stomach the cost. I'm curious if anybody knows a place that rents them for very, very cheap, or if anybody has found a way (or a good company) to cover these types of chairs in a subtle way.

Alternatively, I was thinking about asking our venue if we could use their garden chairs, but I think they might look weird in a carpeted room with a chandelier. We're getting married at a country club.

You might want to post this on your local board if you want specific company recommendations. 

We looked for chair rentals, and we found that the quality of chivari chairs varied quite a bit.  My FI looked at one company near us, and they were really rickety and looked poorly maintained, so be careful with rentals if your problem with the hotel chairs is that they look worn out.  I've heard that it is usually cheaper to buy chair covers than to rent. 

We are renting chairs because the chairs at our venue are fall colors/patterns, and we're having a summer wedding with a garden-y feel, so I understand where you're coming from.  But a lot of brides say that no one but them noticed the chairs.  If it really bothers you, it's something to pursue, but if you can live with the chairs, everyone else will be able to, too.

Why don't you like regular chair covers? What about renting cushions & sashes instead? I may be wrong (because I have no idea) but I would think it's more expensive to rent chairs (not only the chairs but you may have to pay for someone to deliver and/or set them up)

She probably thinks they look ridiculous--I certainly do. 

Renting nice wooden (or fake wood) folding chairs in my area is only about 3.00-3.50 (with setup) so I'm leaning towards that over chair covers.  The only reason I'm even considering chair covers is because it would be easier. 

Actually, I'm not going to worry about it at all until closer to the wedding.  Our site is a historical property and the rental manager says she asks for new chairs at every board meeting. I'm hoping they say yes sometime between now and next March.

I agree with the above poster, rent simple wooden folding chairs available for weddings, and put the savings into extra decor such as a few big bags of votive candles from IKEA. with all the glowing candles and beautiful flowers, nobody will even think about the simple chairs.
