How much alcohol at the reception?

We are going to have about 200 people at our wedding. We were wanting to do kegs of beer and wine. I'm trying to figure out how many kegs to get and about how much it is going to cost.

Each gallon is 128 ounces = ~ten 12oz (small, can sized) beers OR eight 16ox large beers

So a large keg is 16 gallons = ~160 small OR ~120 large beers

Assuming EVERYONE has 1-2 drinks per hour:  X guests * 1.5 drinks * Y hours will give you the total number of drinks to be consumed for the night.  Divide by 120 beers/keg = # of kegs for beer only reception.

For my family/friends, most people are beer drinkers, so I would take the number of total drinks and provide 75% of that in beer and 25% of that in wine. Of course, not everyone drinks though so provide coffee, water, punch/soda, too
