Bi-coastal wedding ideas??

Hello fellow brides-to-be!

My fiance and all of his friends and family are from Boston (where we live now) but I am from California. I feel a bit selfish about having the wedidng in my hometown but I am the bride.....

Any ideas for a bi-coastal wedding? I want to try and incorporate both my CA life as well as our life together in Boston into some cute things (i.e. maybe having Boston cream pie as our cake).

Anyone else have a bi-coastal wedding? I would love to hear about any ideas, tips, experiences, etc.

Thanks and all the best!
Sara

Re: Bi-coastal wedding ideas??

  • I would actually keep the Boston stuff to a minimum. A few touches (like the cake idea) would be great, but I think it might be nice to play up the California stuff - that way your guests from the East Coast can have an idea of what the West Coast is like.
  • im doing snacks from our states.  va peanuts maybe but still looking and thinking

  • Is the wedding in Boston or CA?

Whichever place it is NOT, I would probably try to incorporate a lot of the elements from there. So if it's in Cali and all your side will be from there and familiar with West Coast stuff, I would try to incorporate more Boston, KWIM?

Whatever you decide, I think nice touches like the pie are good, but I wouldn't go overboard with either Boston or California stuff. Perhaps do the Boston cream pie and have your tables be named after fave places in California? Then you're incorporating both.

Dh and I were married in Philadelphia.  His family hosted a second reception in San Francisco.  His family planned the entire thing without any input from us so almost everyone who was invited to the second reception had not been invited to the wedding (and some people not invited to the second reception were RSVPing yes.  SIL had to change the venue twice to accommodate everyone).

  • We're also getting married in Philly (where I'm from) and planning from SF (where we live)! Since travel is already a big part of our lives, we're having a travel theme with tables labled as cities we've visited together (our table will be labeled San Francisco, of course). I'm incorporating a lot of Philly stuff since most people will be from out of town (e.g., soft pretzels for favors, Ben Franklin impersonator). I'm also thinking of having the shuttles do a cheesesteak run on the way back to the hotels since by then we'll all be hungry again. :-)
