My 2 cents: don't get a shuttle

I know there is a lot of talk on here about getting a shuttle or bus or limo to transport OOT guests and others.  I used Krapf's coaches, paid about $1,000 for the shuttle service and they were not good.  In hindsight, I would've just given everyone Taxi information and maybe tried to coordinate with some Taxi companies and had them each figure out their own way to and from the reception.  Just my unsolicited 2 cents.

What happened? How about to the wedding and the reception?

I'm curious to learn more. We are debating between school buses and shuttles and there's a difference of about $500-$1000. Right now my biggest concern is if the Phils win the whole thing in 6 games, the parade will be 4 blocks from my reception and traffic will be a nightmare.

I think its important to provide a ride for our guests so no one even thinks about driving drunk. I would hate to remember my wedding day as the anniversary of a death of a family member or friend. I want everyone to get wild and enjoy the party and be watching what they drink all night. Perhaps the problem wasn't the cost but the service of the company you used. We went to a wedding over the summer and the company they used forgot to send the driver back to the hotel to pick up the second group. Once it was all worked out and a driver finally came to get us. They extended the cocktail hour to wait for us and basically start the reception an hour late. Now the couple is still fighting with the companyto get money back a refund on the deposit or something because of the screw up. We won't be using that company for our wedding and I doubt any other engaged couple that knows them would use them either.

we hired 2 coach buses for our wedding in April to shuttle our guests from downtown Nola to our location and back, best money ever spent...our drivers were awesome and people raved about not having to worry about driving!

Of course it depends on everyone's particular situation, but in our case each person would only have to shell out a few bucks for the cab ride if they didn't want to drive.  I like to think that my friends are all responsible enough not to drive when they've had too much to drink.  We needed a large vehicle, ended up going with a motor coach that sat about 50 people.  They were suppose to make 2 trips from Hotel to Reception and Reception to Hotel.  This was in our contract.  They only made 1 trip from the Hotel to Reception so some people endd up having to take a cab anyway.  The groom's father had argue with the driver for him to make 2 trips from Reception to Hotel.  We had the slowest driver in the world and he was a grumpy old man.  Needless to say the service was terrible. But even if the service had been superb, I still think that - in hindsight - I wouldn't have spent the money on a shuttle.  Since when did transporting your guests to and from your wedding because a cost that the host is suppose to pay for?  I wish I hadn't mentioned anything about a shuttle and had let the guests figure out their own way home.

Maybe it's different if you're in the city, but my reception and hotel are both in the suburbs - so no cabs. Most of my guests are OOT and my fam is generally NOT so good with directions.  After getting lost between reception and hotel two years ago, I def want to offer my guests a ride.  The shuttle company we're using will provide two shuttles from 5:45 until the last guest arrives at the hotel at aproximately 11:15.  Both shuttles will start at the hotel and will go back and forth until about 6:30 and then one shuttle will remain at each location.  Then, about a half an hour before the end of the reception, both shutttles will be at the venue and continue making trips untill all guests are home.Even our local friends are getting a room and staying over so that they don't have to worry about driving if they get a little tipsy.
