Is Beat Mixing by your DJ Important?

I've been researching DJ's and found that some have beat mixing capabilities (where the beats of one song are mixed with the beats of the next song so there is not a break between songs) whereas others do not (they will have a small pause between songs).  I've heard it's better to not have breaks in between songs so people keep dancing, but wasn't sure if this is really a huge issue.  The DJ's who can do beat mixing tend to be a little more expensive.  Is this technique something other people are looking into for your reception?  Or what was the DJ like at your wedding?
