Help...need ideas to decorate ugly stage.

Hi all.  There is a very large stage with risers almost all the way to the ceiling in my recption hall.  It is where a local chorus performs.  I need a way to make it look nice.  I am not allowed to have any open flame so candles are out...please help!

Re: Help...need ideas to decorate ugly stage.

  • We have this really ugly door at our venue. We are usiny 2 out of 4 ballrooms, so it's the door that the divider goes into. It also happens to be right behind the sweetheart table. We are getting the entire wall draped in fabric. It's so much of an eye soar I can't stand it! It was definitely pricey to get it draped, but I feel it's well worth it.

  • Draping it with fabric did come to mind...but then...so did the pricey part.  I guess I am looking for something a little cheaper...I am not afriad of DIY either.  Thanks for the help!
  • Buying your own fabric is less $$$ if you go to JoAnnes or Michael's and get it onsale. Use a fabric that you could find another use for later, either in a blanket, curtains, pillowcases or something that you would get use of later. Or just re-sell it later. Much cheaper than paying someone to come in and do it.
  • I am currently facing the same problem.  My reception venue has a relatively large semi-circle hardwood stage.  My fiance and I do not want to put the head table on the stage as most people do so we have considered putting the cake table up there with some rented greenery and possibly columns... however I am starting to think the columns look a little cheap but I'm not sure what else to do with the stage. This stage can't really be draped in fabric so something needs to be ON the stage.
  • Could you show us a picture?  That might help us come up with something.
  • You could just pretend it isn't there and decorate to draw the eye to the tables or the other side of the room.  If it's large, decorating it might just draw more attention to it.  Unless a venue is particularly neat or something is done to draw attention to certain aspects of it, I never notice walls, floors or tables at a wedding.
  • Here are a few pictures.  Two are from a wedding that used the stage for the band (we aren't having a band or dj) and the other picture is from a wedding in which the stage was used for a LARGE wedding party.  My fiance and I definitely do not want to sit on the stage, we're more comfortable sitting among our guests.

And thanks for the feedback! I could definitely consider just leaving it empty.

  • I don't think the stage looks ugly at all.  I would definitely be staring at the beams towards the ceiling and the windows behind them.

You could always just put the food there if you're having a buffet.
