Reception food

I'm having my reception from around 11am-3pm... Is it fine to have like a "sweet and salty" theme? Lots of baked goods! Doing that in place of a sit down meal...

Re: Reception food

  • 11-3 is lunch time.  You really need more food than sweets and salt.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I think you need a little more.  People may not have time for breakfast so they willl come hungry.  I would think about serving a light lunch.
  • i'd agree.  if anyone has any allergy or restrictions about baked goods (or just don't want to fill up on sugary things), they'll want something else.

Perhaps a soup and salad bar, or some other type of lunch/brunch?
  • 11-3 is lunch time, people should have lunch...

Oh please serve something besides sweets!  My mother was at a wedding last week... 7pm ceremony then just a dessert bar.  No fruit, no veggies, sandwiches etc.  My mom has diabetes so couldn't eat a thing.... she was really disappointed.  As others have mentioned you're hosting you wedding over lunch time.  11-3 is a LONG time to go without any real food.   People will come expecting a light meal at least.  You don't need to do a formal sit down meal, but you could have passed appetizers... or a table with little sandwiches, veggies, fruit, pasta salad etc and then have your sweet and salty table :)

  • no. sweets are not enough (and not getting the 'sweet and salty' theme thing) and it's lunchtime so you need to serve a meal.

You could do heavy apps & tea sandwiches along with the sweets if you want to avoid a meal.  :)
