Preferred Vendors

Hey girls.. I was wondering what is exactly meant by preferred vendors. Does it mean It's the only vendors you can choose from or just some recommendations? Thanks :)

Re: Preferred Vendors

  • A lot of places have "preferred vendors" that they have worked with before, and who they trust to use their facilities.  Some venues will only let you choose from vendors on their list.  Others will let you use someone else as long a they can meet with the vendor ahead of time to iron out details/requirements, etc.

Sometimes it can be really helpful to use a "preferred vendor" because you know that they have a good working relationship with your venue. But if there is someone you want to hire that is not on their list, then you should still try to make it work.  Maybe after you hire them, and they do a good job with the venue, they'll make it on to the "preferred" list:-)

  • yea usually who they recommend because of their relationship with the vendor.  If you go to a bridal show at  your venue you can meet all their preferred vendors at once!  For me the pnly preferred vendor we went with was our photographer because he knew our venue so well he walked us through all the pictures we would have and had albums and albums of couples at our venue.  our dj was not the preffered dj for our venue but has worked the venue plenty of times so also made us feel comfortable the day would go off smoothly as he explained where he would set up in each room

  • When we were in the early planning stages, we found that the preferred companies cost substantially higher. We couldn't figure out why until my hair stylist told me that they have to pay a fee to be on some of the lists. They have to make back the fee so they charge higher. This is probably not the case in all intances but it does make sense with everyone trying to make money any way they can.

  • My reception sites preferred vendors are WAY more expensive than others. When you sign the contract, make sure you're allowed to use other vendors and not just the preferred ones. I had our contact cross out that only preferred vendors must be used for florist and dj before signing the contract. The only difference now is that we have to pay for the meals of outside vendors, while the preferred vendors meals are free.
