Mario Kart or Kingdom Wedding?

We don't want the actual ceremony to be decked out in Mario Land (if so very VERY subtle) but we want our reception to reflect the game we played that started our love. We want this to be a super memorable and UNIQUE (yet not tacky) very fun! Any ideas? Centerpieces, Decor, We already want a Mario Kart or a Mushroom cake, and we want to incorporate the Mario Kart Love Song in the celebration somewhere. But we want this to be unique & FUN, FUN, FUN! All ideas small or LARGE accepted!

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

We went to a wedding where they played the Super Mario theme song following the recessional.  Something you woudln't normally expect to hear in a pretty conservative church and it was definitely a fun surprise when we realized what it was.

Edit: What I meant to say was, maybe you can incorporate the Mario Kart Love Song in a similar way.
  • We're having the victory fanfare from one of the Final Fantasy games (haven't decided which one) played over our first kiss, and other Final Fantasy songs will comprise the prelude.

If you're into Mario Kart, what about naming/theming each table after the various tracks and/or cups in the game?

  • DH and I are total gaming nerds. We expressed this through the music.

Our ceremony music was "Melodies of Life" from Final Fantasy IX. I used a piano rendition for the seating of the moms and the BM processional, and then the actual game version for mine. Our recessional was the FFIX victory fanfare. Our gaming geek friends giggled over it, but unless I told somebody where I got it, most of the non-gaming people couldn't tell any of it was video game music.

We also did a reception entrance and the BP entered to the theme from The Legend Of Zelda. The DJ nearly peed himself when the Best Man did the infamous sword pull as part of his entrance.

We had thought about a Mario and Peach cake topper (He's a short Italian guy and I am quite blonde and pale), or a version of the mushroom cake, but our venue wound up providing us with our cake for "free", and we had to select a design from their book (Or pay an outside baker for a cake, which: no way!). We ditched the cake topper idea as well later on, when somebody gave us a Disney Themed topper as a shower gift.

We also had attempted to find a tri-force wedding ring for DH, but everything we found was either way too expensive or just looked like cheap costume jewelry.

My biggest reccomendation is to keep the references small and subtle. If you wind up cramming it in everywhere, it'll start looking theme-y and cheesey ... and while I know you want your "geek love" represented, you'll probably have regrets in 20 years if you "go nuts".
