Late night reception snacks?????

Hi All!!!
We are getting married in the evening. Dinner at 6 and then we plan to have some good music and drinks. Does anyone know if I should offer finger sandwiches or something about 10ish????
Any suggestions?

  • You certainly can. Though since you're serving dinner, and thus, already feeding your guests, it isn't a requirement.

  • My dinner is at 7 and we decided not to do snacks.... it's all up to you and your budget!  I have been to a wedding where there were snacks later and no one ate them.  I think it depends on the feel of your reception - if everyone is dancing and having fun you may not need them, but it's going to be more laid-back, with chatting ans sipping drinks, it may be a good idea!  What I am doing is serving a different dessert with the meal (raspberry sorbet - YUM!) and having the hall cut up the cake later, as an option snack.

  • I appreciate late night snacks, but do not expect them.

We really wanted to do a late night snack, but it wasn't in the budget, so we are serving the cake later in the eveing instead of with dinner.

  • Finger sandwiches are a little boring imho. Why don't you do some fun comfort foods like sliders, fries, philly cheese steaks, mozzarella sticks OR you can have a food truck come and serve food as guests leave- like a taco truck!
  • I think it depends.

If you have a crowd and the facilities that are going to be rocking at midnight and dinner is at 5, I'd consider it.

If you are having dinner and dancing from 7-10 it's unnecessary.

Heck- why not just cater a whole new fourthmeal!

I think things like chexmix and nuts and stuff are nice late night snacks.  But then I am a salty craver and I loved when my friend had chexmix at her wedding.

  • We thought about it, like ordering pizza or something, but I don't think we're going to. We are having dinner at 6 also.
  • Thank you so much for all your suggestions!!!

We are meeting the people from our venue this Saturday.
We are back and forth in the time of our wedding.
I really want an evening wedding, however we want to serve dinner and
have it not to late. Ugh....lol Decisions!!!  Money mouth
  • We are having a sundae bar served around 9:30-10 pm. Because we don't think everyone will take part, we are only having enough for about 30 people. There will be 80-100 at the wedding. A lot of the "older folks" will have left. It seems a bit more "fun" than snacks, and because we are getting married in August, it might be a welcome late night snack.
  • Late night snacks are always great, but if you have a multi-course dinner, guests might not be hungry; especially if you have edible favors. We decided against it because we are doing edible favors and there is a McDonalds that is next to our reception site. We figured people can go on their own dime...haha
  • The way I see it, if I'm drinking and dancing and low key socializing in between, I do get peckish and having food would be appreciated and make the night that much more fun. But I really do love to eat!

Hmmm, this makes me think about my own plans... I assumed late night snacks were a MUST! We plan on having dinner at 7 and then at 11:30ish, serve 3 apps/pp as well as a display of (self serve style) seasonal fruit and a cheese and cracker board. And possibly some Jewish dessert croissants to go with the self serve set food. Am I completely over doing it?

  • I really think they are too.
I thought it would be really cute to do PB&J sandwiches.
Make them ahead of time, cut in fourths and displayed nicely along with
    something simple and salty.

</div><div>Well this is a WEDDING, not a slumber party. Chex mix at a wedding is kind of weird to me, not gonna lie. I am having a later dinner, so I am skipping the late night snacks, but if I had them I'd serve something unexpected and fun- heck even the McDonalds idea is good if they are served by the caters on trays and butlered. I think that's very cute. </div>
